For those who may have heard Marines referring to one another as "Devil Dogs," it is men like Eugene Lee to whom they owe this honor. The Marines fought so hard at Belleau Wood, that the Germans nicknamed them, "Teufel Hunden," or "Devil Dogs," a reference to the hounds of hell.
Outstanding story. It's a shame to think that the last of those brave men will be gone in the next few years. May they ever be remembered for their heroic actions.
