Son, if you're in the Army and standing in a group of old looking, gray haired, somebody pissed in my cornflakes, mean looking kinda' guys you better believe you're standing in a group of 1SGs, SGMs, CSMs, LTCs and COLs, mix and match whatever combo.
In that case Parade Rest and a lot of "Yes, Sir - No, Sir's" will get you by until notified of real identities.
A good clue is look at body language as you walk up to a group. The pack circles the big dog.
