In November 2005 there were a series of Anti-Terrorism raids in Melbourne & Sydney Aus. 18 Suspects were picked up in the mostly simultaneous raids. The raids were aimed at shutting down a cell in each city that was apparently in the process of planning an attack.
The press made big fuss of the "homegrown" factor amongst these guys, but of interest (and the press don't seem to have picked up on this) is that one of the suspects, a convert to Islam, seems to have received training in Afghanistan prior to 9/11. So there are parallels with the Bit bombers where a cell leader/member had the necessary training to guide / train the local mob.
On the convert issue - there are several people who have been convicted or are awaiting trial for terrorism related offences here in Aus who are converts.
