TOW missle story number two...
1989, Grafenwoehr training area, night fire range, M901ITV, firing a live TOW II missle. The BN CDR, CO CDR, CSM, 1SG, and various entourages are present to watch the event.
They are watching from an additional firing point on the same firing line. The target is up, the gunner is tracking, he fires the missle. The missle launches, proceeds about 200M down range, then goes wild. The missle executes a nearly 90 degree verticle turn skyward, and starts arcing back toward the firing line.
Assholes and elbows moving in every direction! For a young PFC, this was a priceless moment. The missle impacted on the range opposite ours on the other side of the tank trail, about 400M behind us... NEATO. I nearly peed my pants laughing... guess you had to be there.
