For a Speed reload (Gun go's dry and you have to insert a new mag) Is it better to reach over the top with the weak hand and rack the slide to chamber a new round (Like most Glock users) or use your weak hand to hit the slide release as you bring your hand up to re-grip the pistol after inserting a fresh Mag. My muscle memory has me reaching over the top with the weak hand and pulling back on the slide to release it and chamber a new round. I want to stay with what I know already, but it feels weird reaching over the top on a 1911. What is the preferred method of the two, or is it user preference???

I presume you are talking about a slide that is locked to the rear?
