More than likely you've got a blood blister under your toenail. I've had it happen to me once or twice. The last time I drained the blood and within a few days the nail fell out (ok, so it was loose and I pulled it a bit....). Anyway, the nail will eventually grow back. I would just watch it carefully when it does start to grow to make sure that it doesn't start to grow into the nail bed.
I think that part of the cause of this may have been that I didn't have my boots tight enough thus allowing more play between my toes and the toe cups. Could've been something else though.
