I was pulling out some stitches that I had in my leg this morning, and I accidentally cut both sides of the knot, and left the rest of the thread in my leg. Other then showing my dumbassness, will there be any side affects?

Those will be the signs and symptoms I predict you will suffer when your Team medic finds out what you did and has to fix it.

What kind of sutures did they use?

Why in the hell, didn't you just go to your Team Medic?

I will assume that since they were skin sutures and you could see them to cut the knot they were permanent, like nylon, prolene or silk...

were they black or blue in color?

If that is the case, they will do one of three things...

1. work their way to the surface and you will once again see them and be able to take them out

2. your body will seal them off as foreign bodies and form a little purulent pocket (stitch abscess)...more common if silk was used so probably not the case here.

3. your body will seal them off and you will never know you lost the stuff under the surface of your skin except if you can feel the suture.

even non absorbable suture eventually gets broken down....

you are in the company of many an intern...only they usually don't tell.

Looks like MaxTab should get "stitch boy" under has name for a bit...:D
1...never do something yourself that a medic was trained to do...the few times we get to actually DO some medicine, we really enjoy it!
2. If you want to do some medic stuff..always do it on someone else.
3. DocT hit it square with the "intern suture removal"...if you should develop a zit over the site...go see you medic, he gets to work. otherwise...
next team party after a few brewhaha's I forseee in my crystal computer the followinf phrase...

AaHa! But he never said he was alone. And based on my past experience, I can't believe he would attempt to do that without saying "Hey man, watch this! I don't need Doc, I'll just do it myself!".

Actually I tried to get my wife to do it, but seeing as she's pregnant, and any little things, makes her want to hurl she refused to do it. So I was like, "hey, if an 18D can do it, it can't be that hard" and proceeded to use my gerber tool, scissors to cut it, and some tweezers from the medicine cabinet, to pull. Got 3 of them out alright. :D

Oh and the stitches were black in color.

They were probably synthetic. Watch for s&s of infection as per the two Doc's instructions above. If you even suspect, go to your Team Doc asap.

And we want pics for the med board please.
