I'm having trouble deciding between the MotherLode & BFM pack. I know there is a $40 price difference & that the BFM has external pockets (which is not that big of an issue since I can add modular pouches to either packs). However, the BFM has an aluminum frame while the MotherLode does not. I only wished that it came in Khaki. Does anyone have hands-on experience with either of these packs? Help me decide. Thanks Ya'll! :cool:

BTW, I'll use it like a 3-Day Pack.

Have used a motherlode since Afghanistan, had to put some extra pockets on the outside, but it performs well. When in doubt, get the bigger one. The BFM was a lot more expensive at the time, but if I did it all over again, I would go with the BFM, you just have more options. If your focus is the 3-day type of bag, go with the BFM. Just my opinion though...

I saw the BFM and ML side by side, looked them over, and took the BFM, swapping over to it from the Eagle AIII and a custom made Eagle pack.

I love the capacity, external pockets, features, and internal layout of the BFM.

The only thing I would change would be to use a better set of shoulder straps. The quality of work does not appear to be as good as the Eagle either, but nothing has failed in the four months I have been using it, and I have carried as much as 65 pounds in it.

As I understand it from Camelback reps, there is no current plan to make it in Coyote color. Of course, that could mean absolutely nothing.

I would hold that recommendation till I actually got what I ordered.

Go with the BFM! I've got an older (pre-Molle straps) Motherlode. It's a good daypack but I've been eaten up with envy over TR's BFM. Might as well call it a "Big F'n Mother" as much as he puts in it. He packs everything including the kitchen sink and the laptop in it. I've carried commo rucks without as much in them. It's not just the size, pockets, and straps - that internal frame is what cinches the deal for me. I've been holding out praying for a coyote one too but it doesn't look like it's happening. Beggars can't be choosers, at this point I'll take whatever I can get. :lifter Just my .02 - Peregrino

TR is correct about Botach's habit of messing up orders. They always take care of it, but it's just a hassel to send back an item to get the original one that you actually ordered.

Well, I did it & ordered the BFM from Botach in OD (really wanted a Coyote). He gave it to me for $125 + 6 Shipping. Hopefully since I only ordered 1 item, they won't mess up. We'll see... :munchin
