Hand injuries

Other than ice and ibuprofen, any suggestions for treating hand injuries resulting from heavy contact?

In my case, I hurt both hands playing ice hockey, but I think the injuries are pretty much the same as you get from fistfights and that sort of thing. There is nothing broken, but it is very hard to clench my fist or support any weight with my fingers. Not sure what exactly happened, but I probably got slashed with a stick or something. My left hand was shaking when I first noticed it last night during the game. Now it just hurts. Right hand is middle finger only, but that is a real problem I need to fix. ;)

Here's a similar thread, although everything may not be applicable.

RL,
Good thing you use your head and not your hands to make a livin'.......
stick with your ideas for Tx. If you get the feeling of 'creeking' when you flex or extend your digits then tendonitis has set in and the Tx is immobility for 3-5 days, ice/heat, ibuprofen and no using the keyboard on the computer...unless you stick a straw in your mouth and peck at the keys!!!!
Take care and happy healing.........
I can provide nice pics of other more intelligent hand injuries if people want....

RL, I'm just glad it's you asking the question, not me.

Not to screw up the good Doctors advice but in the knife shop, we'd soak that in very cold beer.

You have to drink a lot in order for your hand to cool off.

This is obviously late advice. I grew up playing hockey had a ton of injuries, but year by year for Christmas and birthdays, I asked for hockey equiptment. Hockey gloves would be a start RL

NAH! I just couldn't help it RL
;)

Your post flashed me back when I was in Grade School, I played a couple winters without Hockey Gloves til one B/day. That can be a tad rough on ones hands. Before I got my shin pads, at least I could tape newspapers around my shins. Around 7th grade I had it allllllll.... lol Gloves, shin pads, skates, stick and a bunch of pucks....

Damn RL, That was a GOOD burn, the thread went about 3 weeks. hell by that time, the pus shoulda been nonexistant. (but I'm no Doc, just saw and tended to aaaaaaaalot of sunburn). Good stuff though, when I worked in FL as a commercial diver, I relied on fresh aloe plants to heal the folks that came to visit.
Thing is, seems you are dumpin that burn on your wife. Now, I have smeared alot of sunscreen on females and myself at times....... will I MISS spots on my back...? You bet...! Will I on a female back? NO Fricken Way!! I aim to get very thorough
;) Point being, if someone is applying that stuff to your back....... THEY won't miss any spots... hmmmmm?

BTW, didn't the top of your feet get burned?

TR's advice was good, however to expound, need to use at least a 36 grit pad on that grinder. Does take the fun out of peeling off sheets of skin though.

HEY! Call me a dumbass if you want, but I did not blame anybody but myself. What I said is that I put on plenty of sunscreen, but forgot to ask my wife to get the part of my back I couldn't reach myself.

(That's why my feet did not burn.)

BTW, my back is like permanently tan from this, and I still have blisters or something remaining. It was no fun.
