What Pistol for Suppression??

I have an Element 2 and Silencerco Omega in jail awaiting tax stamp and now I'm looking at a 45/9mm can.

BUT, before I pick a can, I need a pistol. I have a hole in my gun case when it comes to larger cal pistols for a can. The two 45's are 20yrs models and NOBODY ever made a threaded barrel. My P938 seems to be to small and not threaded.

That leaves me with a G23 in 40cal.

Before I go looking for a glock threaded barrel, probably in 9mm.

What does the hive like in the way of a 45 or 9mm base pistol for cans???

I seem to remember, back in the late 70's, when the suppressed Remington Hi-Standard .25 caliber automatic was all the rage ... at least in a certain 'periodical' ....

So, do they make a suppressor(s) for that? :munchin

Get an old colt woodsman and have a good smith reset front sights and buy low velocity 22 ammo. The weapon will not function as a semi but rather as a single shot that has to be manually recycled.

Revolvers cannot be suppressed, and fully functioning semis cannot as the escaping gasses from the cycling will cause noise problems. Some delayed blow back ones will though. However you are then using full pressed ammo and that also causes problems at pistol ranges.

Alternative is the suppressed Hi Standard.

Not what you wanted was it. :munchin

Actually, that follows with what I was thinking,, But as far as 22lr, I'm covered. I have a Ruger 22/25 light and S&W Walther ppk. These aren't mine but look the same. I replaced the rear sight with a Burris FastFire, instead of a rail mount.

I'm looking for a 9mm or 45. If I keep to std loads, under 1100 FPS, I think I'm hearing safe. Most of the good cans are rated in the 130-135 db range? Right now I'm liking the Silencerco Osprey 45 (low to the line of sight) or AAC'c ti-rant 45 (it can be disassembled)

For starters, I'll convert my G23 to G19 and TRY to sell off the 45's that can't be converted,, at a fair price..

HK USP Tactical

I have a Silencerco Octane 45 hosted on a HK USP Tactical that comes with threaded barrel and high profile sights. You can obtain a 9mm end cap from the Silencer Shop for $60 shipped for an extra few dB of suppression on the smaller caliber hosts.

There is a revolver that can be successfully suppressed. The Nagant, designed by the Belgian gunmaker who also collaborated in the design of the Moisin-Nagant rifle used by the Russians for many years. The revolver has a clever gas seal and was used in a silenced form by the KGB for many decades. I understand these revolvers were readily available in the US as cheap surplus guns. I imagine that the special ammo may be difficult to find.

The Nagant 1895 goes back to the black powder days..
That pre-dates even me..
I'm not that old.. :D

If I was looking in that direction, I'd find a Russian PZAM.

I thought so too until I fired one that shot a .30 bullet and you could only hear the hammer drop........ that said drop it in the sand and it would probably not function afterwards. ;)

Actually there is a Russian early 20th Century revolver that as it moves to full battery, as the trigger is squeezed, the cylinder is forced into a second forcing cone and totally seals the cylinder/barrel. It has been suppressed by some of the Soviet "units".

The match between cylinder and barrel has to be perfect or the escaping gasses are loud enough to negate the suppressor.

At lest that has been my experience. I am always up for learning new stuff. :lifter

Well crap, just read up from here and saw that Guy had already brought that up. Could not remember if the revolver was a Nagant or not and he answered that one as well. Also Guy is correct, it is the brass then is forced by expansion into the forcing cone sealing the gasses into the barrel.
