Bad MOS for selection?

I am currently a Private, in AIT for 68c(liscensed practical nurse), My ultimate goal for my Army career is to be a 18D. However from what I've been reading my mos is apparently under strength. I won't be a specialist for two years from now anyway. But if my mos is still under strength at that time will I still be able to drop a packet for SF? I am only asking this so far in the future because it is possible for me to ask to be reliefed from the course and reclass.

Right now you're setting yourself up for failure here. Three posts and two of them are threads with the same subject. If you had wanted 18D you should have gotten an 18X contract in the first place. Concentrate on what you're doing now - finish 68C. Worry about 18D when you have a bit more life experience. Besides - the Army is changing, you may discover that the grass isn't greener on this side of the fence. NTM - quit 68C, flunk 18D, and become an 11B in the 82nd. Life can be full of surprises; especially for those who can't follow through when they start something.

Thank you both for your responses. The book list was just the kind of thing I was looking for. And my mistake doubling my post. I will practice more discretion in the future.. I'm goin to work hard my studies. My pt is good (284) but not anything special. I recognize I have ALOT of growing to do and I'm looking forward to that process.

Your post brings back a foggy memory. I remember seeing a really seasoned looking Green Beret standing around when I was in Basic/AIT (1984) at Fort Sill. I asked him how long it took to train for Special Forces and he drilled me with a look I'll never forget and said "it's a long road". I thought he was being melodramatic at the time but now I think he was giving me advice.

BTW, I shared your MOS preference coming from a medical MOS myself after reclassing from artillery. I wanted 18D or nothing. Of course, back then anyone with a GT over 20 got shipped to Fort Sam for 300-F1. Take your time. SF isn't going anywhere and you have alot to learn, no disrespect.
