Proposed war dog memorial to honor a soldier's best friend

A military service dog killed means a soldier lived.

"Army Sgt. Maj. Chuck Yerry knows this fact - he has worked alongside military dogs since 2001.

"They provide a great service. They're a great resource, and they have skills we can't replicate on a battlefield," Yerry said.

Yerry, president of the Fayetteville-based Special Operations Forces K9 Memorial, wants to honor specially trained dogs killed since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. His group has proposed a memorial on the grounds of the Airborne & Special Operations Museum downtown. A local Boy Scout is collecting donations for the overall design, centered around a life-sized statue of a Belgian Malinois wearing combat gear........................."

Badass idea.

A really nice war dog memorial was placed at March AFB just up the road from where I live. Being that he was a K-9 handler in Vietnam Los Angeles police chief William Bratton was the speaker at the unveiling.

If I got my information right he was a military policeman. He was probably also one of the better police chief's that LA has had in awhile.

Negative. Gates was, but, like a suicidal moth, he was drawn to the limelight.
