Islamic militants take aim at Myanmar

Islamic militants take aim at Myanmar

http://atimes.com/atimes/Southeast_Asia/NG27Ae04.html

The title is a bit misleading - maybe. The Muslims are considered illegal settlers in that area and the violence is causing many to return/flee to Bangladesh. So the Islamic militants plan to "fix" things.

"After decades of isolation under military rule, Myanmar is opening to foreign investment and forms of democracy for the first time in a generation. The reform process, however, is now being attended by unanticipated consequences and influences, both internally and from abroad, that could undermine the country's new trend towards openness.

Recent sectarian fighting between Muslims and Buddhists in Myanmar's western Rakhine State has caught the attention of militant Islamists in South and Southeast Asia. Since May, the amount of jihadi propaganda directed towards Myanmar, a country previously unknown in the world of jihadi antagonists, has surged as perhaps thousands of Muslim Rohingyas have been forced to flee the country. ........................"

Interesting article and a new cause celebre for jihadists. I never thought of Myanmar as fertile breeding ground for Islam in a country dominated by Buddhists, but that explains the friction.

India's counter insurgency school

Hopefully, India will be able to curb insugent movement from the Desh to Myanmar. Their counter insurgency school, which trains units before they deploy to fight insurgencies, is in the northeasten state of Mizoram. Mizoram is between Bangladesh and Myanmar. As we know, India is not a fan of islamic extremists.

Actually we are having the same problem too.We have been having a huge flow of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh mainly due to the not so secure border. The India-BD border is not even 10% as heavily guarded as the Indo-Pak border hence this influx happens.

Earlier the govt. didn't mind these illegals and gave them some incentives but now since they have started acting like they are the boss riots have taken place in the North-Eastern state of Assam.Since this is more of a civilian issue the police will be ordered to take action,Army will be called if it intensifies.Recently two of the Anti-India North Eastern Terrorist groups(Non-Islamic but thought to have been sponsored by China) the Bodo and the ULFA group have pledged to kick the butts of these illegals.

Depending on the actions of these groups it will depend whether the Islamic terrorists will target India too like Myanmar on this issue. If they do target us then like you said there are the forces deployed in CIJWS(COIN School) and an SF unit(21 Para(SF)) which is highly experienced in the N-E jungles.

P.S:I just read in your profile you are in the 1st SFG(A),it seems you have been to the CIJWS on a joint exercise.
