18X blog

I saw this link in a profile. It's one gents journey though the 18X program, from talking to the recruiter to today, which is the last week of Airborne school. It's actually pretty good. Gives one a good gauge of what to expect from one persons perspective.

Wanna bet he doesn't make it?

Kyobanim 10-12-2004 08:26

I won't bet, but I'm interested in why you're thinking that. From the parts I read it sounds like he has a healthy attitude and is physically ready. At least it looks like he'll get through Airborne school.

Lack of focus. He thinks he has a handle on things. I bet he needs constant positive re-enforcement.

Good analysis.

I strongly suspect that the guys on the SOPC committittee will take dim view of this blog. This young man will spend some time in "Jensen's Pond".

Amazing the things that the cadre are aware of, isn't it? :D

Yeah he forgot Rule Nr 1 - Keep head below Instuctor's radar. Seems like a intelligent physically fit kid. But is he ready to play by the hard rules? Well see what happens..
Seen a lot like him along the way - don't see them anymore.

What a great way to get lots of attention from the cadre. Repeat after me .... 1, 2, 3...1

I made the same mistake (having a "blog" about 18x) when I joined.

Fortunately, my CO and Drill Sgts found it before I arrived at Bragg. That site went down in a hurry.

Its amazing how many character flaws can be corrected by healthy physical activity.

In all seriousness, I hope the cadre do connect him to the site, and expose him to the same kind of generous corrective training I experienced. If he's got some toughness upstairs, it'll make him a better person and soldier. If not... oh well.

Without trying to sound like a kiss-ass, I'm constantly appreciative of how much I feel I've improved as a person as a result of the quality training I recieved from the cadre in the Q. The course is a tremendous opportunity for personal growth, if a person takes it as such.

..and NDD is right: that blog is probably a person who's nervous and looking for reassurance about his choice to join.
