Abie Abraham of Lyndora, Butler County, died yesterday. He was 98.

He participated in the Bataan Death March and was a prisoner in the death camps at the hands of his Japanese captors..................."

"Christmas Eve of 1941, with a very heavy heart, 28 year old Sergeant Abraham left his wife and three daughters in Manila as the Japanese Imperial Army closed in on the city.

For the next four months on Bataan, the 31st Regiment fought a seemingly hopeless, but valiant battle against overwhelming, Japanese air, sea and land forces. Totally surrounded, without re-supply, the 31st was overpowered by tank cannons and small arms. ................."

Rest in Peace, Sir! You have certainly earned it and will surely be missed by all that have known you. Thank you for your service and many sacrifices.

Thanks for posting Pete, Had the pleasure of knowing Abie for the last four years, have read both of his books. He has been a volunteer at the Butler VA Hospital for the past 25 yrs. Hell of a guy and will be sadly missed.

These are the real deal. We had a few in the Army in 68 still on AD. Hugh Hewitt's dad was a death march type. My father worked for the Col in 67-70 at EUCOM in J-6. Col Hewitt was the J-6. Ironically both of us ended up at CCS. I never met Hugh at CCS. I hope to as I hear he is a great guy.

He was just a simple soldier and his ranks are growing thin
But his presence should remind us; we may need his like again,
For when countries are in conflict, then we find the soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.......:(

Perhaps just a simple headline in the paper that might say:
OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY. (author unknown)

The passing of our soldiers often go unnoticed and unsung by most of the world, remembered only by family and friends. Wish it were not so. May he RIP, his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.........:(
