American-180
That is an adaptation of the American-180 to an AR Platform!!!
The A-180 was one of the first weapons that were fitted with a "Laser" aiming device. They were deployed mostly in prisons and where large numbers of people had to be contained with relatively small numbers!! Firepower Demonstrations instilled the fear of the "Red-Dot"!! Later. Martin |

Interesting that you need to already have a MG lower and associated Federal paper work BEFORE ordering this AM-15 upper.

American 180
I bought an American 180 when they shifted production from Austria to the US in the late 1970's. It was a fun little toy but expensive to feed. Would not funtion with cheap stuff of anything like the Yellow jackets. Only high velocity 40gr ammo. After firing 15-20' rounds I started having feed problems, the feed block was lifting up off the mounting pins and I could never fix it. Finally gave up and sold the gun to a collector and made a good profit in the process since the NRA had not defended the rights of machine gun owners and allowed the legislation of 1985 to end production of transferable guns.
AAR: This conversion looks strikingly similiar to the 180 and I would suspect the same problem will crop up with the feed block unless there is a way to screw it in place. I also believe that registration is reguired because someone (BATF?) determined the receiver in this case to be the central part because the gunfires from the open bolt. I would also be leary of the plastic magazine. There will be a good bit of wear since the top and bottom rotate on each other. Any grit will cause binding. FWIW: the magazine will empty itself on the ground if the lock is inadvertently released when the mag is not on the gun. All in all this guns are best suited to prison towers or indoor ranges. MVP |
