They have been all over the review sites such as Soldier Systems and MilTimes GearScout. I haven't handled any in person yet, but I know that other manufacturers are starting to accept their entry into the market as evidenced by folks like ATS and FirstSpear starting to make and sell pouches for them.
The reviews have been generally positive. I personally can see where it would be a boon for ambush lines and an effective "mad minute." Beyond that, even for patrolling, except for dealing with the extra weight in the rifle at any given moment, cutting reload frequency in half can only be a good thing. You might even offset some of the carrying weight (they weigh a bit more than two equivalent 30 rounders I believe) by having to carry less nylon depending on your current pouch setup. I know I would like to have at least one to see how they roll. I'm sure others already have some hands on time. |
Surefire mag
When I was at the Rogers carbine course this summer one of the students had the 60 rounder and the Surefire Rep. left one for Mr. Rogers to abuse. The student at the course is also pretty involved with 3 gun matches and was looking for an edge. He was just breaking in his mag and had no problems with it. The loaner from the rep ran all three days with no issues. This was all semi-auto fire. It made a nice mono pod in the prone position and didn't seem to get in the way for other positions. They aren't giving them away. You can get 8 P-mags (240 rds) for the same price.

Picked up an offset and threw the red dot on there. All I do now is slightly cant the rifle and my red dot is right there. Of course, I still have my BUIS folded down. |

I recently attended the Magpul Dynamics Carbine 2 Course in Tucson and I used my new Surefire 60 rounder with no issues. I put about 500 rounds through the magazine during the 3 days. Here is a detailed breakdown of the magazine.

TR - I had a basic Trijicon ACOG on top but I sold my rifle last week.
Lindy - Never looked at the 1 o'clock rail but after looking seems like a good idea. When I get my Daniel Defense I'll look into investing in it. For now I'm down to my Savage .308 for shooting. Apparently kids are an expensive hobby as well as shooting. |
