Boot regulation
Ive done the searching but have not found an answer to my question. In the Get Selected book it says that sneaker boots are not authorized. While I was attending WLC at camp Williams I observed a non qual platoon training and noticed that a lot of the guys training had Nike SF boots ( a sneaker boot ) on while doing the Ruck march, so my question is has the regulation changed at SFAS? is it now aloud to wear that type of boot?
Thank you Spc Warren |
Not sure what you searched for...
If the Army issued you the boots, you can wear the boots. I just "Googled" "Packing List for SFAS" and it is pretty darned specific on what boots you are authorized. Total time: less than 10 seconds... start to finish eta* SFAS Outbrief - see slide 9, additionally note 3 on bottom of same |

You have the option to make your own decisions...
You can base it off of what it put out through official channels. or You can base it off of people's opinions who have absolutely no authority and are themselves giving you their opinion of what they think or believe. Should you choose option one, you will be right 100% of the time, or at least have a reference / leg to stand on if questioned. Choose option two and risk getting sent home if SPC Tentpeg from selection class 4-11 was wrong about the cadre being lenient on the packing list. Or perhaps it was only HIS cadre, or the cadre changed, or decisions were made to no longer be lenient starting with your class, or any other host of reasons that send you home prior to ever getting started. Why take the chance over a pair of "high speed" boots? I've said it before, there isn't a piece of gear that is going to pass SFAS for any candidate....it is the man using it that get's selected. |
Wear the boots you are issued (hence the snappy name, "issued boots") as you are instructed.
Good socks and insoles will help. There are no magic carpets. TR |

Thanks, I'm sure that my buddies down there will be glad to fix this perception. ;) |
boots
selected 02-12; i brought 2 issued pairs of boots in my duffle like the packing list instructed but thats where they stayed. i used my blackhawks and my C4 trainers throughout the entire class as did many of the other students. there's no telling what standard the cadre will uphold during the layout. id say bring 2 issued just in case but have your commercial boots on standby.

There were guys in my selection class with the exact same model of non-issue boots: some had to put the boots away, and the others got to use theirs. It depended on who the cadre was who came along at the time. It was pretty random. You aren't going to get anyone here to say that you are going to be OK if you deviate from the packing list. And if you did, imagine the scene during shakedown: "But Sergeant, I read on professional soldiers that it was OK to bring these boots. What am I going to do now?"

Boots and books
I don't like the idea of buying books that claim to help you get selected.
Since you didn't name any authors, I won't respond to any of them by name. This is my problem with any book that claims to give you the upper hand on getting selected, and I have read many of them. They are either truthful, which means someone is actually giving away the secrets or they are very vague and don't really say anything. So that makes the author not trustful with information or a fraud. Either way, not a source I would want to use. Before anyone says anything negative about this post, I realize the contributions that most of the authors make to great organizations that do great things for Soldiers. Those are great contributions are not the issue, they are the byproduct of a book that should never exist. Your sources talking about boots and cadre are just as bad. As a number, you have no idea what the cadre is looking for. Your "peers" are in the same boat as you. Stick to the guidance that the cadre is giving you. Here is the best advice you will EVER get about selection (and I don't think I am better or smarter than anyone else). Most of my brothers will agree with me. 1. Be where you are suppose to be. 2. Speak only when spoken to. 3. Don't quit. Everyone goes to selection in shape. No one just decides on a Friday to show up to Monday's class. So what is the difference? See number 3 on the list. Selection is all about you and only you. If you are ready, you can get selected wearing snow shoes. sf |

1. Be where you are suppose to be. 2. Speak only when spoken to. 3. Don't quit. That is it. There is nothing else and those of you out there with SF candidate and asset under your name should ponder that. Stop surfing the internet and go ruck/do PT with what you are issued and go to war with. |

And so it begins
I never used authors name, do not put words in my mouth.
I stand by my convictions. Any information that is used, is cheating plain and simple. I have known LTC Martin for a few years now. In fact, he lives just three house away from me. I have no problem with him or with enormous contributions that he has made to better Soldiers. He is a good man for doing so. I am not sure how many would do the same. That is not the issue. I do not agree with ANY book that is out there. I don't care who wrote it. As to your question are we born to be SF. Damn right we are. There is something that separates us from the those that don't make it, something that we all have in common. Don't believe that, take a book count in the shack of shame. I'm sure you find more with the losers and less with the winners. How did I ever get through the Q-Course without a book to guide me? Really glad that common sense thing worked out for me. sf |
