Language Certification at SFQC

I will begin the Q Course next year (Jan-Mar timeframe), and my assigned language is Dari. I want to keep this language, but I also want to get certified in French (scored a 2+/2+ a few years ago). Is there an opportunity in the 2 week orientation to test on languages? Or is there an opportunity to test at another point in the Q Course? I want to start studying French Rosetta Stone so I'm ready for when I might be able to test in French. Thanks for any help.

Get with your IODA cadre and you should be able to schedule an OPI in other than your target language. Several guys in our class did this to varying results. Just be sure that your Primary target language is getting your undivided attention.

Good times,
Blake

If they don't let you, just sit on it for a while and test on it once/if you graduate. Several guys on my team are qualified in multiple languages.

My .02, I would focus on the near target. Being your new language and other aspects of the Q for now.

Concentrate on your assigned language. Bottom line - unless you speak one of the African dialects, your French is about useless for USSF purposes.

Side note to everybody reading this - expect new language guidance. Soon. The recent Army Times GAO article has aired dirty laundry and we're going to have to address the very real problems it discusses. Expect promotions and advanced schooling (the fun stuff) to depend on proficiency in your assigned language. You leave SWCS with a 1/1, you'd better show improvement at your next test. Decreased performance will probably start being reflected on efficiency reports. The bosses are dead serious about this (and I support them).
