Can SF soldiers switch their specialty ?

Hi Everyone:

Quick question from a parent of a prospective 18x candidate:

Once a SF soldier is trained in a specialty, say 18B, can they later volunteer for training as an 18D ?

I would think that this would be possible, but rarely done, since they are needed on their teams.

Thanks !

It was common in the eighties to reclass to another needed 18 series. Not so much these days. More likely you will move up from Junior 18x to Senior 18x, then 18F (possible now 18L) then 18Z. The individual also has the option of 180A (SF Warrant Officer). It all depends on over/under strength of the 18 series.

More prevalent in the NG than on AD.
