Four bombs explode in Southern Thailand
Bangkok, Aug. 3 (AP): Four bombs today went off almost simultaneously in a southern Thai province, but no deaths or injuries were immediately reported.

The nature of the targets in Narathiwat province - three of them government offices - indicated they were probably part of the ongoing violence that officials have attributed to Islamic separatists.

More than 320 people have been killed this year in a wave of violence in the predominantly Muslim southern provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani. Muslims there have long complained about neglect and discrimination by the Central Government of mostly Buddhist Thailand.

Police Maj. Gen. Kamol Bhothiyop, said there were no casualties reported from the bombs, each of which was estimated to weigh about half a kg. He had no information on how the devices were detonated.

One of the bombs exploded next to the Customs Office in Sungai Kolok, a trading town on the border with Malaysia, damaging two vehicles, he said.

A second bomb exploded in front of the Su Khirin district office. Initial reports said there was no damage in that blast.

The third bomb was placed under a pickup truck that was parked in front of the building housing the local Chinese ethnic association in Ra Ngae district, Kamol said. The last one exploded behind the Ja Nae district office.

I hate fucking bombs. You just never know when someone is going to light the fuse. You might be shopping, or at the movies, or enjoying sushi at Fuji.

frankly, I can see this southern problem that Thailand has migrating north to Bangkok.

Highly unlikely to migrate North. Last time that a seperatist/terrorist/revolutionary force tried operating in Central Thailand, they were wiped out to the last man. Notice also that targets are being hit with no people. Nobody gets pissed then, just helps the construction industry.

hope so.

on the one hand, the Thais DID whack over a hundred bad guys a couple of months ago in one fell swoop, in what conspiracy theorists have since posited was a set-up.

on the other hand, they have recovered exactly 8 automatic weapons out of over a hundred, or so, that have been stolen in the past few months from government installations in the south.

the Army is offering $400 in pocket money, and a roundtrip ticket to Mecca to anyone who turns in a gun, or tells the Army where to find one.

the way I see it, a Muslim "problem" is one that usually only gets worse. I ponder, and wonder, and look around for a Muslim "problem" that has been resolved quietly or peacefully, anytime in history, and I come up blank.

of course, the official Thai government version of events is that the troubles in the South lack a religious component. They blame it entirely on a gross disparity between "haves" and "have-nots." On poverty, in short.

Is this working or are they getting trash?
