Advice on weapons slings needed
 

Gentlemen...

I need your collective advice on weapons slings...specifically slings for a Colt M4.

I am currently using an issued Giles sling, however, have realized it's shortcomings over time. For one, it makes transitions to the weak side nearly impossible. And secondly, is a major pain in the *ss (ok, the neck...literally) when worn for any extended time.

I've considered the Chalker sling and am requesting your personal experiences, both positive and negative.

Two questions, specifically...once mounted, does it tend to allow the weapon to progressively ride down on the body when not supported in the firing position??? And are there any problems with the weapon coming detached from the sling inadvertently???

Any shared experiences will be appreciated...

I personally like the single point sling. Easy to down, and very simplistic.

Found this searching his name: Came from the Sources list from Mark Bowden for his BlackHawk Down newspaper series.

One of the guys on the ground in Somalia, his name I believe is mentioned in in the book "Black Hawk Down".

Worked with him on a contract, pretty humble guy.

To get back on your topic, ER do a search on this site. I remember reading a slings thread by NDD a while ago. :cool:

I have used the Chalker sling for roughly 3 years on a Bushmaster M4A3 carbine, reserve 3 gun matches.

It gives good support when adjusted tight, if one had to go to a secondary weapon the sling will let the weapon hang directly in front if you do not have a weapons catch of some kind.

Used with a weapon that has been fired more, the hot barrel will come to contact with your legs.

It has not come off a single time inadvertently.

Had to put some 100mph tape on the shoulder pads since the rubber was starting to rip away slightly.

Tuukka...good to hear your positive experience with the Chalker sling. I've always liked the concept behind the sling, but wanted to hear from someone with some real hands on experience before I put down the hard earned greenbacks. Also trying to avoid buying into a sling that could turn out to be a real-world disaster.

If there is anyone who has not posted on this subject in any of the previous threads, I would also appreciate the feedback.

If I am not mistaken Sgt Howe is married to Col Beckwith's daughter. Their kids are coming from one hell of a gene pool.
