H&K P30 opinions?
 

I'm in the market for a concealed carry weapon, and I'm looking at the P30. I've been reading all the threads on here about the P2000 and HK45, but I'm just curious if you gentlemen have any opinions about the P30 in particular.

I like Fords. I think many on this site will tell you Chevy is the way to go, but it really depends on how you feel behind the steering wheel.

Thats what test drives are for.

BTW, I have yet to be dissappointed with anything HK. My wallet would argue though,,,

I bought a P30s in .40s&w for the wife 3 weeks ago, I sold it last week Monday.
The changeable grips (back strap & side panels) are great, it was easy to mix and match and find something that felt great in her hand.
However, I can't ride the safety the way I do on a 1911 w/ this gun and there is no comfortable place for my thumb.
I placed about 200 rds through her (gun not wife) without any problems. I had more muzzle flip with the P30 than I have with my glock 22, so my follow up shots were noticeably slower ( I think it may be grip related).
So I'm in the market for a new gun for her.

I bought my P30 a year ago. I have not shot it in over 4 months now. My shot grouping is not what I expect with a 9mm compared to both my .40 USP and .45 Tactical compact both H&K. It may be the way it sits in my hand, but it is constantly low and left of my target.

I will say the .45 Tactical is by far the best gun I have shot. The recoil is very smooth and follow up shots are quick to get off. If I had to have one gun, it would be the .45 Tactical.

I have thought of selling the P30, but I don't see any reason to loose any money on it at this point. It can sit and come out and play from time to time.

Haha I'm fairly sure the one-woman appropriations committee I report to would deny that purchase, though it sounds like a brilliant idea to me. :p

I'm actually a fan of Glocks, but I don't really like the lack of safety features for CCW. I don't feel comfortable keeping one in the chamber without a decocker, trigger safety, or something.

Your OP asked in particular about the P30. There is adequate evidence posted here that it is a good choice. Best or better can lead this thread into hundreds of posts as we explore the multiple parameters we may choose to evaluate and their respective priorities each individual brings to their own decision.

My advice is to avoid the paralysis of analysis. Make a choice and get on with your concealed carry. Once you are comfortable and proficient with your choice, then explore other choices as your hobby.

Well regardless of the advice I receive here I'm just going to go shoot one and decide from there -- but I'm always interested in discussion. :)

This is what I recomend. Go rent one and shoot it.

Go back a week later and shoot it again.

There are people here much better versed and knowledgeable about handguns than I. So I keep it simple. I carry HK exclusively. If I had to buy another brand I would go with Glock but thats just me. My SK doesnt have a safety and Im fine with that.

As far as cost goes...you dont have to settle for a lesser gun due to cost or even pay top dollar for HK.

I bought both my handguns used for around 400 cash out the door. It took some doing and calling around. In fact it took calling three different stores in my area every day for over three weeks. But I found both my USPc45 and P2000sk for the price I wanted to pay and in great condition-

Put 300 rounds through a newly purchased p30 .40 cal today. Gun felt great. I have the DA/SA and the trigger pull was smooth.

It will take a bit to get used to the mag release on the gun, but that will come with practice. The single action trigger pull was comparable to the Kimber I have been issued.

One thing that distinguishes this gun from others is the interchangeable grip pieces. I played around with them a bit today and found the right selection for me. Afterwards I felt like I could grip the pistols much better and my follow up shots were tighter and faster.

Excellent weapon. I'll keep updating as I train with it.
