Somalia - After Years of Chaos, a Ruler May Have a Chance

An interestingly complex situation with implications far beyond its ravaged borders and whose outcome remains TBD.

Even the "hope" offered in this piece is depressed.
We'll have to see what will be....

I did Somalia in '85 and it was a real eye opener. We had to put an armed guard near our log tents because their soldiers were stealing MREs when we weren't looking. The one and only fat person that I saw there was a General in their Army. I also saw a number of very young soldiers. After all of the years of chaos stability there will help with stability in the rest of East Africa.

Spent a year there on an Infantry TAFT via SATMO in 1987. All I can say is GOOD LUCK!
