Broken extractor pin (AR15)
Gentlemen,
BLUF: I seem to have broken the extractor pin in my Olympic AR15. Ammo used: M855 FMJ 62gr. Here's what happened: After about 60-70 rounds I was having a failure to extract every round. So I broke it down to get to the extractor, and lo and behold, the extractor pin was sheared right where the extractor mates up with the bolt (just over 0.115" from the end of the pin). I have pictures, but cannot upload them at the moment. If I just push the remaining part of the pin so it covers where it broke, will it function or should I just obtain a replacement? The rifle has never given me trouble until now. Thanks! |
I would replace it, and get a spare parts kit at the same time.

TR is right on.
Never rely on a questionable part. Replace it Immediately and get a spare parts Kit. |
Roger, thank you both.

Oly has a horrible rep, mainly because they use parts that are no where near milspec. If I were you I would not only replace the extractor pin, but also look at the extractor.
The best thing you could do is get at a minimum a complete milspec bolt. |

I have not been impressed with Oly thus far, but I guess I got what I paid for.
Attached are the pics of the extractor pin itself. |
It may just be me, but that extractor spring insert looks a little out of sorts. Like it's too short or installed up side down.

Yes, it does look upside-down. |
All of this is dependent on which way UP IS with relation to the Bolt Face!!!
