Major James N. Atanasoff
 
My friend and mentor "Big Jim" Atanasoff passed away this past Sunday. He commanded an A-team in Viet Nam in 1966, A-331 in Loc Ninh as a 1st Lieutenant. Later became the B-team commander. He had fought an illness for 6 years now may he rest in peace. He will be missed.

Thanks for the kind words. He was a unique fellow. I remember the story he told of when he met John Wayne at Ft. Benning during the filming of "The Green Berets". They got all the men who had served in SF that were on post for a get together during time of the filming. He stated that when he met "The Duke" that he was just going to say a few words and go on, but John Wayne wanted him to stay because he was the only one he could look "eye to eye" with. So he spent the better part of the evening talking with Wayne. He treasured that time in his life and I don't blame him. Big Jim was what I pictured a model SF soldier to be. Thanks again my friend and rest in peace.
