hiraba is an archaic term of art that is not broadly used outside legal and academic circles. Note that Islamic law does not look kindly on non-Muslims using Islamic terms in discussions with Muslims.

When Muslims refer to the crime of hiraba, they almost never use the term itself but rather use words like brigandage, gangsterism, or even gangster jihad.
