Al-Qaeda funded Philippines bombing
SOURCE: The Associated Press (www.ap.org) MANILA, PHILIPPINES: Police on Friday said they have arrested a suspected Muslim militant who allegedly arranged for Al-Qaeda funds to finance bombings in the Philippines - including one that killed a US Green Beret two years ago. The money bought explosives, speedboats and rifles used in kidnappings and bomb attacks, security officials said. Khair Mundus was arrested May 3 and confessed to funneling at least US$89,000 from Al Qaeda militants in Saudi Arabia to Khaddafy Janjalani, a leader of the Philippine militant group Abu Sayyaf, national police chief Hermogenes Ebdane and Defense Secretary Eduardo Ermita told a news conference. They described Mundus, presented to the media in handcuffs, as a link between the Abu Sayyaf, Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda network and Jemaah Islamiyah, a Southeast Asian terror group blamed for several deadly bombings. |
Not surprised.
Interesting, though. |
