Anyone tried this stuff???

I am the BN S4, currently - stop laughing..., and was approached (called) by a retired SGM who's selling a new high-speed weapon cleaning compound. It's called "FP-10" and he says that it's being used and endorsed overseas by "Navy Seals, Green Berets, Army Special Rangers"... I gotta admit, the last one cracked me up, even if he meant otherwise...

Has anyone heard of this stuff? He says it's being called "firepower" in theater. He also says that it's being issued to deploying soldiers who are leaving from FT Stewart - and they happen to have a surplus at a great price...

Is this stuff much better? Worth $70/gal. If it is, I'd like to buy some.

Thanks.

You can use a lot of things, many successfully. Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil is not a bad lube under some conditions, and is tremendously better than no lube.

I have seen the FP-10 for sale, but never actually used it. Most of the guys I know using specialty lubes are going with Militech or TW.

I`ve used it. I think I had a vendor give me a couple bottles at a match. It doesn`t work bad, but I still prefer Militech.

Militec sent my unit FREE lube (we are in Iraq). I just sent them an email and bang! it arrived.

They got a customer for life! In fact they got a LOT of customers for life for supporting us like that.

Thanks guys.

I've used it. No better or worse than any of the others.

gagners:

As I see this, you are asking about a 'cleaning' compound and not a lube.

So, what is wrong with the cleaning fluid you Green Mountain Boys are using right now? CLP cleans as well as a service grade weapon needs to be clean. So far I haven't heard any disaster stories from guys who have cleaned their weapons daily using any of a number of substances. Carb cleaner, Top Engine Cleaner, Simple Green, Windex with Ammonia D, shaving cream of various types, --- even what is issued and which units seem to get by the fiftyfive gallon drum -- good old CLP. As long as a guy cleans the rifle / carbine daily if it was in the field and his magazines once a week -- any failure to function will be more a result of a failure to lubricate than carbon build up.

Cleaners only as your post asked about cleaners and not lubricants.

Anyone who calls the Rangers, "Army Special Rangers", is someone whose background I would question. Any vendor who says his stuff is great yet has a surplus instead of his product being in demand is so stupid that he would say "Army Special Rangers".

If his shit was so great -- why hasn't he sold his inventory? Want to know why? Because it ain't any better than stuff that costs $10.00 a gallon.

Let me guess -- said vendor claims to be Army Special Forces too.

haha... nope, hasn't tried that with me yet...

Your points are well taken. We have no problem with our current stuff, just didn't know if this stuff was the cat's meow - figured this would be the place to ask.

And the "Army Special Rangers" thing cracked me up. I could picture a bunch of studs in bike helmets jumping out of short C-130s...:lifter

I've used FP10...it's pretty good. We've had no problems with it. TW is great stuff, used that a lot.
Militech is something I'll never use though.

Why would you not use Militech? You sure cannot beat the price ANYWHERE, and it has been tried and tested by our troops in the sand.

JEVapa 03-09-2008 00:36

Well, the last word we got was not to use it...that was through official comms. It's not carried in the SSSC stores either, because it supposedly breaks down the metal in weapons through its little bonding process.
If it's been reformulated, or has been relooked, then that's another story, but it's still not carried at SSSC or issued, at least the last time I went. I buy all the stuff for my Tm and SSSC never has it and they say they won't get it because of the aforementioned. I'll look it up tho.
Besides, I tend to use tried and true stuff like Shooters for cleaning, and depending on the gun, TW, Shooters red grease, or CLP for lube.

GG:

If you have no problems -- you have no problems! It isn't how or what a fellow uses to clean his rifle (I have cleaned my rifle in rivers and showers). Chances are no matter what he uses, it will get enough of the carbon off to ensure solid performance.

I have shot an AR of mine for the last forty days pretty much daily and just today I got the chance to clean it!. I have been hosing the bolt with CLP in temperatures from about 15F to 60F over these forty days. The AR continues to run. Today cleaned the bolt and bolt carrier and hosed the barrel with carb cleaner and ran a bore snake through the same.

Take my word for it -- if I had nothing else I would have hosed the bolt and bolt carrier down with shaving cream and ran my toothbrush over it until relatively clean. No sweat -- I would have dumped 30 weight motor oil on it if I didn't have Break Free or one of the ten other hand out lubes that contractors have given me over the years -- each one thinking that somehow they could BS guys who shoot into thinking their lube was better than anyone elses or what is issued.

Well -- old Ethan Allen may differ in his opinion but please remember that the carbine or rifle your Green Mountain Boys are using today don't know the difference so when all else fails -- try out what the Army recommends!

He, he, he.

FP-10

PA National Guard seems to be sold on FP-10. About 4 yrs ago I asked a friendly PA NG Supply SGT if he had any CLP. His reply was,"How much do you want?" He explained some fishy-sounding story about how a SOU msg (the PA NG) suspended all use of CLP because it was considered a HAZMAT. I asked what they used instead and he said FP-10 was the authorized stuff now. I took many gallons of CLP from him chuckling all the way home. I also took a qt bottle of his FP-10 and tried it out. As a lube, it works as well as CLP. As a bore cleaner, I didn't get the same solvent action that CLP has. I also used it on the moving parts of my mobile simulator systems trailer doors/hinges and found it washes off in the rain rather easily. CLP hangs in there through the weather. Unfortunately, I suspect some retired Col. talked the NGB into this stuff. Never got the straight scoop from any of the NG units in PA, but to this day, you'll still find it in PA NG POL lockers...
