Midwest Industries Rails

Hello Gents, been awhile since I have visited and posted on this site. I just returned from the sandbox and bought myself a new toy.

I just bought a DPMS AR 15.

Recent mods:
Trijicon ACOG TAO1NSN
Magpul MIAD Grip
Blackhawk Single Point Sling(I know, I know, bring on the Blackhawk comments...:D)

I'm looking to put a Midwest Industries FF rail on it. I already have Knights Armament panels.

My question is, anyone used MI Rails and will KAC panels work with them?

Thanks Gents.

KAC Rails will fit and function properly with any MIL-STD rail system. I'm unsure if MI rails are to spec. Surefire, Daniel Defense, A.R.M.S., Larue will work just fine.

Not knocking MI, just have no experience with their product line. I was thinking of picking up a BUIS from Midwest Industries for my 6.8 upper. If anyone has one, and wouldn't mind sharing their experiences, please PM me to keep this thread on topic.

I had one of their A2 type folding BUIS's and it worked well for me. I sold it to someone here on the board, just can't remember who. I only got rid of it to go to the Troy which is lower profile to allow clearance for optics.

I'm using a couple of their sling mounts. Good price, good quality, would certainly recommentd the product. Lower profile than some of their competitors' designs. Can't speak for the sights or rails. Will say that KAC covers do not fit everything; can't get mine to latch on my DSA FAL forend.

I have the MI "Omega" 7" rail system on an old Bushmaster "Trunk Gun"

No gunsmith required, Free Float, and has 1" rail to cover the delta ring assembly making it an uninterupted rail system on the your top rail.

They've become so popular that almost every vendor that handles MI stuff is "Out of stock" for the moment. The rail system is top grade like any other rail system. Mil spec anodizing, 6062 aluminum, top shelf stuff IMHO.

www.bravocompanyusa.com usually has them.

I also have some of their sling mounts. Good hard stuff.

My KAC covers fit them perfectly.

Get rid of the Knight's panels and get some infinitely more affordable Magpul XTs. Easy to cut to custom size, easy to snap on and off, and they come in a rainbow of colors, so long as your rainbow is black, OD, brown and tan.

Thanks for the help, guys.

just wanted to point out that the Omega rail is made by daniel defense, not MI:

I've a couple of MI rails and they fit all mil-spec accessories. quality is good and they're reasonably priced, but the handguard tend to be a bit wider than others.

edited to add: on the MI freefloat rail, it does have the cutouts for the KAC panels. however, on the rear one, the clamping system prevents the KAC panel from going back far enough for the latch to engage the cutouts, which should have been moved forward a notch. i told them about this but am not aware if it has been corrected. i did a writeup back in '06 with some pics (username and password are both 'mm' to view larger pics):

Well, I ended up getting Knight's rails anyway...

Got a good deal on them with a BUIS included. I also sold my Trijicon ACOG so I have a few dollars laying in my Paypal account.

So, for you AR guru's, any suggestions??...

Currently:
DPMS AR15
Aimpoint Comp ML3 MOA2
A.R.M.S 30mm Throw lever w/space
Matech MUIS
KAC Rails w/vert foregrip
Magpul MIAD grip
Blackhawk Single point sling

I'm thinking of getting a new stock. Vltor or LMT... I just have to figure out which will fit the DPMS...
