MOA dot size on ACOG/Jpoint??
For those of you running a Jpoint with an ACOG on your M-4, what size MOA is your dot, and are you happy with it?
JP offers 8 MOA and 4 MOA dots, but I've only looked through through the 4 MOA. (They also offer a low intensity 4 MOA that minimizes dot flare for indoor range use, but I'm not considering that one.) Thanks. |
We're running with the 4MOA version on some of our ACOG/M4's too (Operator preference) and it works well enough with us. IMHO for a weapon that will double duty to allow you some standoff magnification and allow for closer in engagement (ala JPoint in a close fight e.g. CQB ECT.) the 4MOA is a good compromise.
Again for clarity, I recommend the 4MOA for standoff to close fighting (in that order). If your weapon system will be primarily used for the close fight such CQB then I would recommend the 8MOA for faster "close-in" target aquisition. Everything is a tradeoff. Hope this helps (YMMV), JLF |
Good question. All of my Aimpoints have the 4 MOA dots and I think that's too big for "standoff" (>75M). (Part of the reason I like the EOTech.) I've never played with an 8 MOA dot. I'm also eager to see what the consensus is. :munchin Peregrino

I have a 4 MOA JPoint backing up my Trijicon.
I like it. TR |
I have the TA31DOC and the Docter Optic has a 7 M.O.A.
It's not that big and since it is used for close engagements, I don't mind it at all... besides, I can always revert back to the crosshairs for more precision requirements. http://www.trijicon.com/user/parts/p...4&categoryID=3 |
