SVT40
Does any one have any experience with it. Any thing to know about it. I picked one up in decent condition on a trade.
Thank you. H. |

Finding ammo for that rifle will prove to be troublesome.
Maybe one of the 18B's can steer you in the right direction. |
It's not that hard to find,
Sportsmansguide.com has it. But then again there's not much they don't have.

7.62x54R has been easier to find than 7.62x39 lately, I don't know about cheaper, but it is at least easier to find.
Good times, Blake |
Thank you, The ammo is pretty cheap, something like $44.oo for 440 rds. I can not find magazines and what price I see is over $75.00. I was wondering if there were any unusual features or problems with the firearm.

I would have a gunsmith who knows what he is doing check it out, including the headspace.
The Soviets were slapping weapons together while the Nazis were at the door of the factories. Some were well made, others , maybe not so well, and the rifle is old enough to draw Social Security, regardless. TR |

Thank you, I will have to check my headspace gauges and see if I have one for it. This one is pretty clean, I will post a picture later. H. |
TR,
Again thank you. I went trough it, it is very clean. I checked the head space (gauge came in Friday). Everything was 5 by 5. It is a interesting gas piston design, much like the SKS. I found some reasonablely priced magazines at Gun Parts (Numrich). H. |
A weapon with an interesting history. Could you post some pics?

I hope these work. |

Clean looking blaster. I wonder if it is as abusive as some of those Nagant carbines in 7.62X54R. Are you going to slug the bore? Gene |
Quote:
Gene, I have not thought of slugging the bore. It is MILD to shoot. It makes the Mosin carbines seem like 105 in recoil. If you ever come down to Oregon, you can shoot it. I would say it is about the same as a AK.. maybe a touch more in recoil. Hollis |

Now isn't the time as you can see from the weather reports. Gene |
Gene, Yes today is a day for ice skating. It started out with freezing rain to snow.
I have a bunch of ammo too. It is a good time to stock up, prices are rising quite a bit. I am also going to add to my stock of bullets. I don't trust Pelosi and to be honest the R's were not all the fire arm friendly either. BTW one of the Nagants that I have is a pretty nice Remington. I am about finished on the AK 74 I made. I used a AK47 receiver flats and rails. The rail that is also the ejector had to be slight lengthened. If you plan on coming down, let me know ahead of time. I do a good Bar B Q or pot roast or ??. HOLLiS, you have some cool stuff! I always enjoy your pics... :lifter
