And in light of the upcoming day of Remembrance..

Gentlemen... thank you all for your sacrifices, your service, and your commitment. Freedom isn't free and you have all sacrificed so that we may have it. Thank you.

I would also like to extend a heart felt Thank You for your service and sacrifices.

I attended my sons Veterans Day program the other day where they were honoring his uncle and my brother in law SFC Christopher L Robinson who was with the 2/20th, he was killed on 25 MAR 06 in Afghanistan. During the program I heard a poem that I thought was very touching and would like to share with everyone.

So many American heroes, and McPaper once again can't think of anyone other than Sgt. York and Audie Murphy.

• Smedley Darlington Butler, USMC - breveted to captain on July 13, 1900, for distinguished conduct and public service in the presence of the enemy near Tientsin, China, July 13, 1900, during the Boxer Rebellion, Medal of Honor (Vera Cruz 1914), Medal of Honor (2nd Haitian Campaign 1919-1920).

• Samuel David Dealey, USN - Medal of Honor (posthumous), 4 Navy Crosses, Army Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star Medal (posthumous), Purple Heart.

• Eugene Bennett Fluckey, USN - Medal of Honor, 4 Navy Crosses. Skipper of the USS Barb and author of Thunder Below!.

• Richard Hetherington "Dick" O’Kane, USN - AKA "Killer" O'Kane. Medal of Honor, 3 Navy Crosses, 3 Silver Star Medals, Legion of Merit with "V", Purple Heart, POW Medal, etc. "Killer" O'Kane was the most successful submariner in WW2. USS Tang.

• Merritt Austin "Red Mike" Edson, USMC - Medal of Honor (World War II: Guadalcanal), Navy Cross (2nd Nicaragua), 2nd Navy Cross (World War II: Tulagi), Silver Star Medal, 2 Legions of Merit, Nicaraguan Medal of Merit with Silver Star, UK Distinguished Service Order.

• Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, USMC - Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, Purple Heart. Top Marine Corps ace of all time.

• Edward V. Rickenbacker, USA - Medal of Honor, Army Distinguished Service Cross with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters

• Douglas A. • Frank Luke, Jr., USA - Medal of Honor (World War I; posthumous), Army Distinguished Service Cross with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster (World War I; posthumous)

• Charles Evans Kilbourne, USA - Medal of Honor (Philippines), Army Distinguished Service Cross (World War I), Distinguished Service Medal.

• Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., USA - Medal of Honor (World War II), Army Distinguished Service Cross (World War I); Silver Star Medal (World War I)

• Keith L. Ware, USA - Medal of Honor (World War II), Army Distinguished Service Cross (Vietnam), Army Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Silver Star Medal, Purple Heart, etc. MG Ware was the highest ranking casualty of Vietnam. He was the only WW2 Medal of Honor recipient to receive the DSC in Vietnam (albeit posthumously). In late 1944, while XO of 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry, Ware's life was saved by Audie Murphy in an incident which earned Murphy his first Silver Star. Ware later received the Medal of Honor for his own exploits on Jan. 26, 1944. He then commanded the 2nd Battalion, 15th Infantry in the capture of Nuremberg. In Vietnam, Ware commanded Task Force Ware during the Tet Offensive and was later killed while commanding the 1st Infantry Division.

• William Joseph "Wild Bill" Donovan, USA - Medal of Honor (World War I), Army Distinguished Service Cross (World War I), Army Distinguished Service Medal (World War I), National Security Medal, etc.

• Leonard A. Funk, Jr., USA - Medal of Honor (World War II), Army Distinguished Service Cross (World War II), Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters

• Maurice L. "Footsie" Britt, USA - Medal of Honor (World War II), Army Distinguished Service Cross (World War II), Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart; "2nd most decorated combat soldier of WW2"; former Detroit Lion.

• Thomas B. McGuire, Jr., USAAF - Medal of Honor (World War II; posthumous), Army Distinguished Service Cross (World War II), Silver Star Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, 14 Air Medals. McGuire Air Force Base is named for him.

• Robert L. Howard, USA - Medal of Honor (Vietnam), Army Distinguished Service Cross (Vietnam), etc. Quite a familiar name, I should think, to many on this board.

• Patrick H. Brady, USA - Medal of Honor (Vietnam), Army Distinguished Service Cross (Vietnam), Army Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star Medal with "V" and Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, 53 Air Medals (1 with "V"), RVN Gallantry Cross. Robert Howard and Brady both originally received a second DSC which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor.

I'll be in the Auburn, WA Veterans' Day Parade tomorrow, with Chapter XVI, SFA and the 1st Cavalry Division, Assn., NW Chapter.

I understand that this parade is the largest Veterans' Day parade in the USA now. Nice for Auburn; however sad for the rest of the Country. :munchin

All heroes in my eyes. Thanks to those who came before us and sacrificed so much.

May God bless all of our Veterans, your service and sacrifices are remembered and honored always and especially on this day. Thank you.

While you think about those who won medals, also think of the many nameless that served with pride and made the world a better place and those that are still striving to do so.

Chapter XVI, SFA Marches
 

Attached is a picture taken on Veterans' Day 2006 of Chapter XVI (16) SFA Marching down Main St in Auburn, WA USA The Chapter President is leading the group.

After the parade, most went to the Chapter's team house for beer & pizza.
