Sig 229 10K rounds: what to do?

I keep rough track of round counts on my firearms (well, not the .22 rimfires) and I have just crossed the 10K mark on my Sig 229 DA/SA in S&W .40/.357 Sig.

All I've ever replaced was the recoil spring a couple of times. I've inspected the frame and slide very carefully but I haven't detail stripped it.

I'm torn as to what to do with this pistol. It's my favorite, and the DA pull is like butter and SA is nice and crisp. The Sig refurb is cheap but I worry what they'll end up doing to the trigger.

Any advice is appreciated.

I was at the SIG Academy last year and I saw the only poorly functioning 229 I have ever encountered there. They told me that it had an astronomical number of rounds through it (factory loaner gun) and was having problems with the frangible they were shooting.

IIRC, they said that the problem was the trigger spring.

I would call the factory and ask if you could buy a spring kit, just in case you start having problems. Never hurts to have spares.

Service life of the various guns is 60 to 100K, with spring replacement every 8-10K rounds. There will be the occassional frame crack and extractor prblems, but with good inspections and respringing the gun(s), you should get 50K rounds with no problem. But, trigger pull will be at factory settings for break with Sig springs. I wouldn't go with Wolff's or other's for warranty purposes if you are the original owner.

Thanks! That makes me feel better - my 229 is barely a teenager. Springs it is.
