Question for the SOG veterans.
Hi all,
As a police officer my issued sidearm is a Browning Hi-Power 9mm.Only thing I changed were the grips (I put Pachmayrs on it,maybe later on,if allowed,I put on some tritiums). Since the HP was the issued handgun for SOG personnell, can you perhaps give me some tips, techniques, first hand stories and such on the HP? Thanks in advance. Respectfully, Chris. |
I still have the P35 that I smuggled into RVN then declared it a war trophy and brought it home.
I own 4 of them. Other than keeping it clean, lube the normal areas paying attention to the rails, sear/trigger/hammer engagement areas. I use a good high pressure grease like Rig or Militec (Free sample found here: http://www.gungrease.com/pages/1/index.htm) or Brownell's (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/sto...p=19643&s=)for these areas and a good corrosion preventative/lube like LPS#2 on the remainder of the weapon. I'm seriously looking at having my main carry gun Hard Chromed in a dark shade. I do have night sights on it. Magazines can become an issue, Mec-Gar makes about the most dependable mags for them. A friend of mine gave me a set of Spegel Grips (http://www.lightningarms.com/spegel.htm) they're expensive but really thin and good. And more, you may want to look at Brownell's, these are much cheaper and pretty good Micarta Grips(http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/Sto...l.aspx?p=9563). Also, you may want to look into getting a set of "Calibration" springs from Wolff (http://www.gunsprings.com/1ndex.html), or through Brownells, I understand that they have a rather good export department. I have done other work on my main carry piece, I installed a Cylinder and Slide Hammer, Trigger, and ambi-safety. I do not recommend you attempt this unless you are a competent gunsmith (remember I built an M60 receiver from scratch!!). That's about it for now. BTW, I did shoot quite a few people with mine in RVN and they all stayed down!! Later Martin |
Chris,
just how much can you change on an issued sidearm ? I canīt change anything on my issued H&K P7-PSP. I do have some of the mods that Martin mentioned on my off-duty firearms though. Mike |
Mike,
officially we ar not allowed to change anything, except the grips. Some guys put tritiums on it,others install an ambidextrous safety and such. Thing is that if involved in a firearms incident where you had to shoot, they take your gun off you for tests. If they notice any big changes you are in big trouble. |
Martin,
can wee see some pics of your Hi-Powers?:munchin |

2. The sights suck (Iīd put tritium sights on there) 3. The magazine capacity sucks (8 rounds) I carry an off duty CZ75, Hogue grips, trijicon tritium sights, shok-tec recoil absorber, modified trigger pull and 15 round magazines with extreme shock CQB ammo. |
Mike,
canīt complain about the mags. They have a capacity of thirteen. Also have holes in back to see how much rounds are in the mag,and theu have a little metal lup at the bottom to eject te mags faster when pressing the mag release. Our mags are of Italian manufacture (no name/company is mentioned on the mag though). Chris. |

13 is OK. If you havenīt hit by the last round itīs over anyway.;) The magazine release of the P7 is a major pain in the ass. You have to depress the little knob and push forward the same time to get the clip out. Not very field-friendly... Stay safe ! Mike |

MM, That is close except his has MMC adjustable night sights and no stippling/grip tape on the front strap. Nice looking pistol Sir. Good times, Blake |
I didn't get issued a side arm...

Maybe because you were just too accurate with that RGP-2?:D

Toby, Brother!! I wasn't issued it, I brought it with me!!:D
OK, Top one is my first (sans grips). The second has a Cylinder and Slide Hammer, Trigger, and Ambi-safety, also Spegal Grips and MMC Night Sights 3-bar green rear and red front. The third is a stock GP. |
