Royal Robbins 5.11
We just started carrying this stuff in our store here in Fort Worth. Does anyone have any opinions of, or experiences with this gear or this company? Are any of their other "Non Tactical" lines of gear worth looking into? I just bought a pair of the pants, and I like them except for the possibility of putting enough gear in them to impede my ability to walk. :)

Great gear.
Line includes pants, shorts, polo shirts, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, and vests. Let me know if there is a Group Buy deal underway. TR |

i like my 5.11 pants. material seems tough enough, and the small front pocket is perfect for my cell phone.
as i understand it, 5.11 is now a seperate entity from royal robbins. cheers, MM |
The only problem I've had was with the magazine pockets on the vest. They sit on one side thus pulling vest on that side.
They need to add some durable material to the inside of the pocket to prevent the magazines from wearing thru. Anyways...I like them! |
Good kit.

Never heard of the stuff. Anyone got a link or some pics?

the vests are handy and made of a heavy cotton material, heavier than BDU material (temperate). Have modded mine with internal holster and add'l reinforcements at stress points.
FWIW - I got mine from http://www.vstitch.com/royalrobbins/index.php EGG |
Thanks.... took a quick look, may purchase a shirt and a pair of shorts..

Sir, FWIW I'm not 100% but I think the shorts are....well how can I put this Navy SEAL short shorts. *No offense intended or implied. |

Have you seen a pair of UDT shorts? TR |

Thank you for the clarification TR. Sorry for the mis-information Team Sergeant. |
I think that they make standard "Cargo" shorts, and also something that they call "Academy" shorts that, from the pictures at least, look to be at least a couple of inches shorter than the standard shorts.
|
5.11's are first rate rigging. I have the vest, pants, shirts. Very durable stuff and has "clean" look, doesn't ID you unless you wear your hair too short...
|
Or if someone knows what they are looking for.

One of the ways to blend in is to set the trend and wait for others to catch up. If you have a problem with professional adversaries, what you are wearing when they come is generally the least of your problems. |
Well Said, Sir.

Bird and Berry Crowd, NDD! That's what I'm going for. What kind of tobacco do they chew? Do I have to change brands? The 5.11 vest I have is good, when I spill stuff on my shirt, I just zip it up further to cover the stain.

SIR??
That guy called NDD "SIR", damn.....

There is a remote possibility that he is at least 30 minutes older than me; as well as being a QP. |
I'm getting used to the "sir" thing - maybe I missed my calling? LOL

TS (Being raised as very polite childen my kids say "Yes Sergeant", instead of "yes sir".) |

Love the RR gear. I've been using his stuff while climbing for years.
One question; do any of you have the vest holster from Eagle? I've had one on order from Brad for 4-5 months now, LH, andwould like to know whether or not it's worth the wait/ Thanks, Maya |
I've got one (RH), I like it.
TR |
I took the holster unit from Eagle's FAG pouch and made a module wrapper for it... I think these holsters run less than 10 bucks
EGG |
I have a couple of those and the BHIs that came with a briefcase.
|
I wore my (two) 5.11 shirts while in Greece and Italy, love zippered upper right pocket for passports (mine and kids). Used the concealed carry pockets for both airline tickets and lots of tissue paper for cold. These shirts worked good. Also noted that I could wipe off stains but remember to use WHITE paper towel or napkin. The cheap yellow napkins that Lufthansa gives out with meals will stain the shirt. Boy did that piss me off, but stain came out that night in the hotel. Yes I spill a lot, my shirts have to be pretty durable. I learned my table manners while dining seated on a stump. It still shows.

I worked at REI in high school in 1986. I remember stocking royal robbins 'tactical' pants in colors like aqua/turquoise. they have been around for a while. I like the short sleeved shirts. Have almost one of evey color they make. |
We need someone with connections to get together a 5.11 GROUP BUY!
TR |
Pretty good markdown below list price from these people, http://www.athenapolicesupply.com/ I have my order in, 4 pants, 4 shirts, and 1 vest. $39 for pants, $39 for the shirt, and $49 for the vest. I will post if I get the stuff on time and let everyone know.

Check with TSSI (TacSurv on the net, I think...) on purchase of 5.11 clothing, just another possible source of fair deal.

You have a picture of this holster you'd share with us? (now that I'm a 5.11 vest owner) I'm now looking for a holster that can handle a full size HK .45, and two extra mags (in another pouch)? TS |

LATAM all present and accounted for. Thanks guys.

As far as a holster, I used one from one of the manpurse er fanny pack holsters that I had laying around and it worked fine. I too would be interested in a Egg holster for my vest. |
