SF....Nightstalkers
There is the obvious "rivalry" between SF and Seals, Army and Marines, etc. What is the relationship you SF guys have with the 160th? I only ask because I have a relative who is 160th and when I told him I was obtaining an 18x he gave me that smirk hah.

Very aware of this. I guess it's good they don't waste cadre time by going for something they clearly do not want. But it would have been nice if that contract was available to someone who really did want it. Guess some people don't know until they are faces with adversity, discomfort and a true fight.

Dan, you're not going to make it through SFAS by way of an elevated post count here and at SOCNET.
Spend more time doing PT - and reading. |
The original helicopters for 160th came from the SF Group Aviation Detachments. They were supposed to improve maintenance, readiness, etc. Unfortunately, that went by the wayside and now, it is extremely rare for 160th to fly any kind of support for an SF Group. At one time, USASFC(A) and the subordinate Groups were slated for ZERO hours of support from 160th. I am not sure that has changed.
IMHO, most of the aviators from 160th are very good at what they do, but see themselves as more special than Special Forces, due to some of the units they work with. Just my .02, YMMV. TR |
^^^^^Even though they are just talented bus drivers.

Nice... ...and it doesn't matter who they are driving. Unless you paint the bus black... ...that makes you an operator. |

I appreciate the info guys hah.

Their supporting groups is no longer all that rare.

You can start a fire with that burn! |
If not for one of their VERY talented bus drivers, i would not be here today. I have nothing but the utmost respect for them and every thing that they do to get me safely from point A to point B.

I'd much rather have a man fly me into the side of a mountain than by a computer.

I don't know about today, as I've been out of the loop for quite a while, but the 160th selection/training process was extensive in the late 1990's. Several students of mine went to the 160th and they were GOOD. |
This is an old post but, coming from aviation I know plenty of 160th mechanics, and they believe that they are better than SF because they do not fly them and they fly "packages". Similar to what The Reaper mentioned. I find it hilarious because they believe that they are more elite soldiers when in reality they are a bunch of mechanics. Id love to see them try and make it through SFAS! However, I do have to say that the aviators and crewchiefs do go on secret squirrel missions, but hearing the mechanics gloat about how special they are is something else!

Special Operations is a team effort and everyone needs to be at the top of their game.
Mechanics are just as important as SF soldiers, everyone has their job to do, we just have different jobs. |
