Got it at 500 yards with a Rem 700Mlr in .338 Lapua.

Yeah, it went down right now. When I field dressed it, the chest cavity looked like a bowl of cherry jello. TS, it'll have to be a loin or backstrap. I had the rest made into sausage. At the Dept of Wildlife game sheckpoint, the warden said it had the biggest horns of the 200 animals he had seen...

Severe hydrostatic shock?

Just curious what weight of bullet and velocity you were working with.

300gr Sierra Matchking over 93gr of Retumbo. I haven't chronied the load but it should be around 2800fps.

At the game checkpoint, the game warden said it was the largest of the 200 animals he had seen. it was 14 inches high, width was 4 1/2 inches wide.

Where did you take it? There are some fairly nice ones I've seen while surveying in NE Colorado, SE Wyoming.

We were in Unit 27, Central/Eastern Wyoming about 40 miles West of Newcastle. Here is a close-up of the Horns....

LOL. For a true rifleman who'd rather cover a 440yd cornfield than make the traditional 40yd 30-30 shot to fill the freezer they're a popular quarry. Nice overall mass too, did you score him?

No, no score. It was 14"long and 4 1/2" wide. I was going to get it mounted but the Taxidermist in that area was ill and not accepting any work so I just kept the horns.

I'm guessing pre-shot field assessment was less than the proverbial 3-seconds...
