New Harsey Folder
 

Just received a new Harsey Tactical Ranger Folder today.

It is the biggest folding knife I have ever seen. Just under 5" blade, almost 11" overall when opened, over 8 ounces in weight. Any bigger and it would be a crew-served knife.

CPM S30-V blade, Titanium liners, nylon handles, stainless steel fasteners.

Liner lock, available in Desert camo, but mine looks like a Tiger Stripe pattern to me.

This is one SERIOUS folder!

That's the Big Brother to the T2 that I got from Bill. Same knife, but a smaller scale (4" blade, 8.75" OAL on the T2) good size for a folder. The steel is unreal. It is the same as used in the Yarborough/Green Beret Knife from Chris Reeve. It holds an edge better than any knife I have ever owned. I have been carrying and using this one for a couple of months now and it works very well.

wow Bill, you named a knife for me....the Harsey "T-2" ranger.
Would have been nicer as the "T-2" surgeon (hahaha) Give me some slack, it's 23:40 and I just finished a mess of a case in the operating room. I could use a little humor right now, even at my own expense!!

As a follow on to the above posts. DO NOT, cut anything on a "disposable" plate, etc) while it is on your LAP !!! Set it on a hard surface. These things are SHARP BEYOND ALL BELIEF !! I did slice through a disposable plastic plate (that was on a table) and I can't imagine what it would have done if it had been a thin plastic, paper or syrofoam plate setting in my LAP !!! These things are like SCALPELS !!! This also goes for the Yarboroug/Green Beret Knives. When I was posing for the pic of myself with Chris Reeve at Bragg, I started to hold MY YARBOROUGH (that hasn't been made yet :D ) by the Tang in one hand and the point resting against my index finger on the other hand. IT poked a hole in my finger !!!!

These guys do know what SHARP is !!!

That is the same except for the camo. This is more of a Tiger Stripe, and covers the blade as well.

I may take some pics tomorrow, if there is any interest in seeing it.

Or you could just ask the designer.

Holy shite!! Yeah it's big. I can hear the ladies now,

"You happy to see me, or are you packing a Harsey Folder?"

Okay, I admit, I started to cut this tree in half with the Tactical Folder, and decided that it was going to take too long, and probably blister the heck out of my hand.

So I cheated, and broke out my beater Yarborough/GB Knife to finish the job.

The GB Knife did the trick, but would no longer pop the hair off my arm when complete, so I need to sharpen it before commencing any more cutting demonstrations.

I used my good Y Knife for the photos, but there is nothing wrong with the GB Knife, other than some pine sap/resin on the blade.

This took a little while. I am not a professional logger.

TR, you didn't mention the comment that Mr.H made out at Mackall about his designs last too long, so he wasn't selling as many knives, so he came up with the "Camo" idea in hopes that people would lay them down in the woods and LOOSE THEM !!!:D

Something tells me that no matter how sharp or dull the blade was when I was done, he would gut me with it.

That straight in chopping style ( as opposed to making a wider face angle so the chopping is easier) is common to hand bucking logs with an axe in South America. No connection is there?

So does anyone else have trouble with the phrase "...my beater Yarborough knife...", as used to refer to multiples of this fine weapon? We pay field grades waaay too much. ;)

I started in on a bevel, then discovered that the log was thicker (and tougher) than I anticipated. I had also planned to roll it and cut the bottom side the same as the top, but the log was uncooperative and I figured using the axe or the Stihl, while tempting, would be cheating.

Yes, I have seen guys fell trees with machetes down South by cutting almost straight in, and you do waste a bit less wood.

I could have used your skill 2 weeks ago when we cut down two trees (well bushes really) in front of my house. Great looking knife. That Mr. Harsey hims good.

When I have an axe or a saw, I prefer to cut trees with them. Good to do it once with the knife just to know that I can.

When chopping like that, I know why I ask for a good cushioned handle, like Hogue uses on their weapon grips, and a long blade, with the weight towards the point.

Would have been pretty quick and less painful with a good machete, but I haven't figured out how to carry one in my pocket, yet.

The only difference between the Tactical and the Ranger is the false edge on the top of the Tactical. I hear this months Field and Stream magazine has a pic of the Lone Wolf/Harsey Ranger in an article on knives. (just thought I'd throw that in while on the topic)
