I think Teddy's correct judging by the cars (all 1947-1958), uniforms, equipment - pre-M14s (which came into use circa 1959) and all. I'd guess somewhere around 1958-1960.

The Big Picture was produced and aired 1951-1964. I used to watch it weekly, along with Victory at Sea and The 20th Century - some of my favorite programs growing up.

The LT giving the first aid class @ 8:13 is Marion Mills. After a couple of tours in SEA, he went to seminary and came back in as a Chaplain. He was the 7th Group Chaplain as a MAJ and married my wife and I in the JFK Chapel.

For those of us who spent time at Tolz the film is a definite langlauf-tour down memory lane. ;)

Very cool!!:D

That was great. It reminded me of that movie with Kirk Douglas, The Heroes of Telemark.

Great clip. Worth the watch..

Great find! Fun to watch!

It kind of scares me that my service in SF is closer to that generation of SF than today's generation! :boohoo

FOG verification

I remember one of the old guys telling me SF never had M14's, went from carbines (m2) to AR-16/XM-16. Anyone able to verify this?

awesome. but why are the officers talking and the NCO's nodding? I thought it was the other way around.

Because even though it was about SF, it was made by Big Army! :D

During the 1959 time frame the 10th had M14s which were used for weapons training and firing for familiarization. The TOE weapon was the carbine.

Phantom Fighters

Very nostalgic. T-10 chutes, Bergen rucks, steel pots, 210 cm skiis, wool shirts and cotton winter battle pants. Those winter caps itched...

Threeofclubs 01-12-2011 19:08

Thanks very much for posting this. I finally got an opportunity to watch the whole thing, and it was fascinating.
