Every Day Carry (EDC)

Ok, since many folks here don't have 'deploy to a combat zone' in their job description, how about sharing what you carry day-to-day on your person and why? AD guys, this is more along the lines of what you'd carry in your pockets or on your belt in garrison than your field-specific gear.

I try to always have:
  • CRKT M16 Ti folder
  • Kershaw Chive folder
  • Photon III covert
  • Mini Bic lighter
  • Day Timer
  • Mechanical pencil
  • 3' 550 cord
  • Change
  • Wallet
  • Gum/Listerine Breath Strips (I'm trying to be more considerate of others)

In my 'briefcase' for work I carry:
  • Leatherman Wave
  • Surefire E2e
  • Small first aid kit
  • Pens & Pencils
  • 5' of 100mph tape
  • Lansky triangle hone
  • CMG Infinity Ultra AA LED
  • Flat tire repair kit (tire levers, patches, CO2 inflator, hex wrenches, spoke wrench)
  • Small bottle of Lubriderm
  • bandana
  • reading material
  • steno notebook
  • work-related stuff (only if absolutely necessary :))

Air.177 05-10-2004 11:36

Let's see, the other day I overheard my little sister telling my middle brother to go ask me how I carried all of that stuff in my pockets everyday, so here we go:
  • Applegate Fairbain folder
  • Spyderco Renegade folder
  • Wallet
  • keys
  • chap stic
  • inova X-1
  • zippo
  • surefire G2 or Z2 in Kydex carrier
  • Motorola Cell phone
  • 3-5 Ink pens
  • Business cards
  • Fobus Motorola Radio carrier w/radio (for Work)

Occasionaly at least one of the items is forgotten/lost/destroyed. I hate to think how much stuff I would carry if I had a briefcase or a CHL:D

EErrrrrr....UUUhhhhmmmmmm...........

Someone please PM me when this thread degenerates from a serious topic into the standard gibberish and babbling hijack.. I have something to say!! LOL hahaha

back to thread.....

Air.177 05-10-2004 13:49

Razor, Your inbox is full.
That is all

Razor 05-10-2004 13:53

Reading is fundamental, dear DDS. ;) Notice I said Lubriderm (a moisturizing hand cream), not Surgilube, which is probably what you were thinking. The other 'odd' items (besides the reading material, which comes in handy during the many, excruciating USAF-led meetings I attend) are indeed very important to me on a far too frequent basis. Gotta read between the lines, molar man.

Gibberish and Babbling? What do you think this is, Lightfighter or something?:D

Sacamuelas 05-10-2004 14:00

I understand Sir... My mind is not always working to well after a full helping of the daily "grind" at work. I just have to keep "drilling" away at it until I get home though. LOL

I am sure you have valid and logical reasons for all the included items. Understood, Sir.

Sorry for the hijack... I tried to be an adult, I really did. :p (Air.177, your're lucky..I had a great little comeback for you "it's a bear not a monkey" boy!) LOL

back to thread....

I would not wear a 550 cord necklace, except as a partial cover of a dogtag chain. The tensile strength exceeds that of your neck.

If it catches in anything, or I were going hand to hand with you, you would regret wearing it, till you lost consciousness.

Just some friendly advice.

TR

Razor 05-10-2004 17:13

Excellent point, and a good idea for everyone considering the number of people that wear their ID badges or security cards on neck cords nowadays.

shadowflyer 05-10-2004 17:13

TR,

Thank You Sir. I did not think about that scenario. I will adjust my method of carrying that particular light.

P.S. Sir , would I be able to purchase any of that LeMas ammo for my carry weapon?

Thanks in Advance,
Jason

That is why dog tag chains are breakaway. You do not want to be a towed jumper, passenger, biker, etc. It is also a point for jumpmasters to watch out for. I use my dogtag chain to carry one of my Photons, partially sheathed in 550 cord.

LeMas is military/LE only, sorry. Did you see my thread in the Ammo section with the pics? Will put up one more there later.

There is a similar civilian round, but I cannot speak to its efficacy. You might ask APLP about it.

Roger sir. Like Doc T says - my lack of will power is exceeded only by my capability to rationalize (or something like that).

She uses lots of big words.

The Reaper 05-10-2004 20:36

If we ever have anything to send your way, I see part of your change coming in fresh logs of snuff.

Which Otis kit do you have? Got a couple of different ones and I love mine. Good company to deal with as well. Met them at the SHOT.

TR

NousDefionsDoc 05-10-2004 20:42

Two - the one for the Glock 19 and another that's a combo 9MM/M4. Gotta go, somebody's screaming. LOL. I do love being a medic.

Counsellor, you need a gentleman's knife, if not a big one.

And a multi-tool for the briefcase.

And maybe a firearm or two.

We have people who know about these things.

Trust me, as your Samoan attorney, I am advising you to arm yourself.

TR

DanUCSB 05-10-2004 21:25

Pocket stuff:

Cold Steel Voyager (tanto) folder
Pens, black and blue, one per
Wallet / Keys

I know, I know. My idyllic Santa Barbara university existence is making me soft.

Edited to add: And if I didn't live in the Democratic People's Republic of Ass-Cl.. er, California, then I'd be packing something a bit more potent than the Voyager. :)

Razor 05-12-2004 08:54

TR or anyone else in the know, what caliber brushes come in the Otis Tactical Kit? Ideally, I'd like a kit that can clean 9mm, .40, .45, .223 and .308.

shadowflyer 05-12-2004 11:14

Razor,

I have an OTIS at home but will have to wait until later on tonight before I can check it to see exactly what calibers it cleans.

Maybe someone will have one handy to get you an answer quicker.

Smokin Joe 05-12-2004 16:11

Razor,

I just googled it and came up with this.

http://www.sportchalet.com/family/in...2337&cp=876052

It looks like they have several different ones.

Razor:

I have a couple of the older #224-2 M-16 Butt Stock Systems that will work for your calibers given the addition of the different bore brushes.

I also have the latest #750 Tactical Cleaning System which states that it is good for .177 to 10 gauge. It is a bit larger, about 4" in diameter and about 2" thick.

HTH.

TR

Edited to add, I think this one would work as well.

Deluxe Law Enforcement Cleaning System

Designed to clean law enforcement pistols and sub guns 9mm thru 45 calibers. Cleans 5.56 & 7.62 Caliber rifles and 12 Gauge Shotguns. Solid brass components, two 8” and a 30” cleaning rod clean any barrel length. Now automatics can be cleaned correctly from breech to muzzle without disassembly. All-caliber patches and heavy-duty bore brushes easily strip the copper from bores. Special handle with scraper, pick, and brushes clean the receiver, trigger group, and bolt. Everything is neatly packed in an 8 oz., pocket size soft-pack case.

85211 Deluxe Law Enforcement System $42.95

GackMan 05-14-2004 20:24

what a fun thread.

on me:

Eickhorn-Solingen Original PRT
cell phone
either Glock 21 or Kimber Eclipse Custom II
spare mag for above
CRKT KISS folder
stinking badge
peerless hinged cuffs
surefire p6
g-shock
money
keys (cuff key, photon micro, beer bottle opener)
wallet (id, permits, biz cards, COSTCO (where ammo should be sold) etc)
OC
iPAQ

in my pack (T.H.E. Pack):
flex cuffs
IBM T40
big bag full of cables and other assorted hacker gear
blank CDs
bunch of software
4 or 5 different network cards (a new MAC is a new identity :) )
recent gun rag to read
ID/Passes to different places I visit
bunch of other big shit i can't fit in my pockets... check book, pens/pencils, power cord, spare batteries.
E-trex venture GPS (have blue tooth GPS mounted in vehicle)

Razor 05-14-2004 21:30

Gack, how are you liking your T.H.E. Pack?

GackMan 05-15-2004 02:32

on the plus side: plenty of room, seems well made, lots of flexibility built in to it to do what you want with it.

I've only had it about a month. I really like it so far. I had looked at a Camel back BMF for a little while and settled on this instead. $50 cheaper too.

the water bladder pocket is pretty big. I have a 100 oz in there and I have lots of room left over. I don't have a 5 liter to try to fit in there but I'm betting that it would.

the 2 big outer pockets that come with it are pretty good sized. But I added on 2 external pouches. not that I needed room, but it is easier to keep things separated with them. the outside is covered with MOLLE loops so that is pretty useful.

There was a guy selling them at the last gun show and he had 3 of those 400 round commie sardine cans full of ammo in one and he was swinging it all over the place. seams didn't even look stressed.

On the down side:
- the one big inside compartment is cool. much better than having permanent dividers. However, I had to figure out a way to divide things up to carry a laptop, books, etc. having some loops inside would be nice.
- no drain holes in the bottom and not watter proofed/resistant on the outside. If it rains on it, it will probably hold some water.
- the sternum strap was set up like a frigging chin/throat strap... that thing had to move.
- the hip strap is a POS. totally useless, single thickness cargo strap w/ a fastex buckle. I took it off after a couple hrs. not that I have enough weight in it to need it... I'd have to be humping a bag full or rocks or something. But I figure if they are going to have one, at least make it worth a shit.

Air.177 05-15-2004 10:44

For those of us not,"In the Know" could someone please explain what a T.H.E. bag is? a link would be much appreciated, sounds like a good piece of kit.
Thanks
