While we're playing these games, who can identify this item?

Bonus points if you can identify the country of origin.

Not sure about that, but as your Samoan attorney, I recommend that you change your sig line before something unfortunate happens.

Whatever it is, it looks expensive...

Is it Scandinavian?

Reminds me of a ball bearing or a compass. Are we going to get any help with this?

I doubt that these are available at IKEA, although I have not actually checked.

First question: What is a "Boule"?

Second question: Depends on what you mean by "available." You're getting warmer, I suppose.

Hint: This is a military board. It ain't a household item or a toy.

Sdiver 04-20-2004 19:54

Question: Is it used in the production of a weapon, that'll eat the paint off the side of a house ?

Ambush Master 04-20-2004 20:08

How about the components of a small Thermo-Nuclear Device !!

Some part of the old USSR. Possibly Ukrane.

I was thinking that, but did not want to admit that I suspected it.

Was going to guess a CBU sub-munition in the interim.

Good call, AM.

Obviously an implosion design? They are all pretty much the same at that detail level. French?

Israeli. This is one of the photos taken by Vanunu (or whatever his name is) at Dimona.

AM, there is a lot of open-source information on the construction of nuclear weapons, but I would not be surprised if at some point in your career you were training to be a mailman making a very special delivery.

Ambush Master 04-20-2004 20:25

The "Old School" from which I not only Graduated, but I Survived, had only two types of Operatives, THE QUICK, and THE DEAD !!

I think I posted the Egg thing in here somewhere.

Take Care.

Hm. I looked at the design and thought it was something along the lines of a bomb, but the fact that it looked so polished and had a walnut-wood looking ball in the center threw me.

Boules is a game old French men play, the boules can be taken apart to check the weights on the inside, which I believe are made of wood.
They would look very similar to thermonuclear weapons, apparently.

Mental note: stay away from old French men.

I think the old nuclear guys would call what you show "the Pit." Here at Clarkeville there was a Navy Base (yes, a Navy Base in Clarksville, Tennessee) where the "pits" for Navy nuclear weapons were changed out. Being radioactive, they decay after a while and have to be replaced to insure a high order detonation. At one time, that photograph would have been
TS-=SCI NUCLEAR SURETY material.
