TAPs for Steven Gernet (10th SFG)

Guys; received the sad news today from Kim Carruthers.

Special Forces (10th SFG), 2/75th Ranger and brother Steven Gernet was KIA, 23 JAN 07 over the Tammuz bridge while flying in a Bell 500 “little bird” as a door gunner for Blackwater over Baghdad. Steve retired in 2005 from 10th group out of Carson, Kim & Steve served together from 95-97 with LRSD - good mother fucker 18F4VW9.

Please send condolences, donations and support to Steve’s wife Colleen. Kim got the message over a secure net about 1 hour ago, Steve was doing what we all are doing and he believed in our mission and to take it to and kick the enemy in the ass!!!

Colleen does not know when Steve will be brought home, but she is planning a military service and celebration of Steve’s life on Friday, February 2.

As Colleen gets more information, she will send out the details.

Didnt get a chance to post to this when it happened...

Steve was a great guy, friendly, dependable, all around great person.

I attended the service in the Springs, lots of guys turned out, Rick T was in town and spoke. I think there was a good after service gathering that went well also.

Good pic of Steve and bracelet offer from this link:

So KW9598, what you're saying is you don't remember the 13 gallons of Jose Cuervo Tequila that we all drank in the proper Steve Gernet drinking mode.. Straight shots only, salt and lime are for pussies, the only chaser allowed is beer or coke. And that was just at the American Legion Post for the after the Memorial Service Celebration of Life.
After 5-7 hrs there, we adjourned to Steve's house where we finished off another 7+ gallons of Jose Cuervo (the only brand of Tequila according to Steve), and caught Rick before he fell into the fire barrel. I had to shave my tongue for a week after this. God, I hate Tequila.

B 2/10 served as the pallbearers led by SGM Ricky P. There was a ton of brothers that he had served with who showed up from out of town.

The Patriot Guard Riders turned out to support Steve. Mind you this was Jan and about -10 outside with the windchill and a smattering of snow on the ground, while they are standing outside the church holding US Flags for the entire service. They truly are a special bunch of people.

In Feb/Mar of 07 we had the Steve Gernet Memorial Ride in the Springs and once again we did Tequila shots with beer chasers. Colleen drove Steve's truck behind about 20 QP's on their scoots as we went Bar to Bar. It started off in the low 40's but warmed up as we went along. not that the tequila helped any.

I miss ya Bro...
