Happy Thought of the Day...Ahhhh, just a nice thought of disappearing for awhile. Thinking of planning a short getaway, my sister just moved to Melbourne Florida.
Does anyone here happen to be familiar with that area and could give me some info on things to do around there? You can PM me, no "crank" messages...LOL :p |

The evening of April 18th...leads to the shot heard ‘round the world
Events leading to the birth of this great nation.
Battles of Lexington and Concord In April 1775, when British troops are sent to confiscate colonial weapons, they run into an untrained and angry militia. This ragtag army defeats 700 British soldiers and the surprise victory bolsters their confidence for the war ahead. On the night of April 18, 1775, hundreds of British troops set off from Boston toward Concord, Massachusetts, in order to seize weapons and ammunition stockpiled there by American colonists. Early the next morning, the British reached Lexington, where approximately 70 minutemen had gathered on the village green. Someone suddenly fired a shot—it’s uncertain which side—and a melee ensued. When the brief clash ended, eight Americans lay dead and at least an equal amount were injured, while one redcoat was wounded. The British continued on to nearby Concord, where that same day they encountered armed resistance from a group of patriots at the town’s North Bridge. Gunfire was exchanged, leaving two colonists and three redcoats dead. Afterward, the British retreated back to Boston, skirmishing with colonial militiamen along the way and suffering a number of casualties; the Revolutionary War had begun. The incident at the North Bridge later was memorialized by Ralph Waldo Emerson in his 1837 poem “Concord Hymn,” whose opening stanza is: “By the rude bridge that arched the flood/Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled/Here once the embattled farmers stood/And fired the shot heard round the world.” https://www.history.com/news/ask-his...ound-the-world The Revolution Begins The clash began on April 19, 1775 when more about 700 British soldiers were given what they thought were secret orders to destroy colonial military supplies in Concord, Massachusetts. Fortunately, thanks to a rather elaborate colonial intelligence network, led by the Sons of Liberty, the Patriots were aware that their supplies were at risk, and were able to move them to different locations long before the British began to move. Also, thanks to the daring rides of a few brave men, the colonial militia knew that an engagement with the British Army was imminent. The first shots were fired just after dawn in Lexington, Massachusetts the morning of the 19th, the "Shot Heard Round the World." The colonial militia, a band of 500 men, were outnumbered and initially forced to retreat. The British army was able to press forward to Concord, where they searched for the supplies, only to come up empty handed. While the British were searching, the American militia was able to reform, and they met the enemy at the North Bridge in Concord, and they were successful this time in driving the British back. As more American reinforcements arrived, they forced the British army south to Boston, and the militias blockaded the narrow land accesses to Charlestown and Boston, starting the Siege of Boston. The American War for Independence was now in full swing. https://www.constitutionfacts.com/us...und-the-world/ |
Go to xxxtube and type in "The Concord Hymn" and you'll be able to hear it sung or recited.
Excellent book on April 19 1775 is "Paul Revere's Ride" by David Hackett Fischer. Goes into what lead up to it and the aftermath. By the rude bridge that arched the flood, Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled, Here once the embattled farmers stood, And fired the shot heard round the world. The foe long since in silence slept; Alike the conqueror silent sleeps; And Time the ruined bridge has swept Down the dark stream which seaward creeps. On this green bank, by this soft stream, We set to-day a votive stone; That memory may their deed redeem, When, like our sires, our sons are gone. Spirit, that made those heroes dare, To die, and leave their children free, Bid Time and Nature gently spare The shaft we raise to them and thee. |

That's what I did & had plenty of time in advance. Sat down with some nice Chinese bookish-looking guy with his 3 screens who looked like he ate numbers for snacks. Helped with a decision over something. He showed how it would never begin to matter unless I managed to live to be 108. In contrast, wife's life was a bit different than mine (a bit more vanilla but don't tell her that). She did it online in her robe, it was a snap, and we're both happy campers. Bottom line, ya do what ya gotta do. |

Showing up to work this morning and my team had a catered lunch for me and then presented me with a Gen 5 Glock 19 as a retirement gift. I have one of the best teams one could ask for. I wish them the very best....
