He is also enrolled in an Accelerated Masters Program and has earned 8 of the 33 credits he needs for his MS degree this year on the state's dime. One more year, and he will have his Masters in Chemical Engineering.

After that he is considering obtaining an MBA if a program that offers tuition reimbursement in the form of a teachership or fellowship of some kind can be found. Then he will get 3 years experience working somewhere else at my insistence, and then he wants to come to work with me. I hope I can afford the salary he will command at that point.

He and I sat down back in his Freshman year and based on my advice, he set up his education plan. He has not had a hiccup yet. When my kids were growing up, when we were talking, I always treated it as a given that they would go to college and get postgraduate degrees. It seems to be working with my Freshman daughter, also at Tech, as well so far. She wants to get a MS degree as well.

None of the college idiocy of the past 4 years made it to the UP of Michigan, thank God. I would periodically jokingly ask him how big the protests were up there. He always replied that everyone was too busy studying to have time to engage in any nonsense. "We're engineering students, dad. We don't have time for any of that crap."

Luckily enough for our country, not all the college kids have shit for brains.

I am as proud as I could possibly be.

Congratulations Axe, that is awesome!

My bro graduated with a Petroleum Engineering degree from OU, then worked his way up, the hard way...cutting no corners and being faithful to his endeavor.

He has traveled the globe now with an American based oil company and is currently on a four year gig in Cairo, working with the local government to do some good things for all involved.

I am so proud of him, after what he has been through, to be at the top of his game.

Wishing all the best for you and your son:lifter

Apparently Fuel Budget is Go!

What a difference an election makes.

Ex NORTHERN LIGHTNING kicked off. F-16s/F-22s/(alleged) F-35s roaring around the area. Ahh, the sound of Jet Noise. And of course the big flying gas stations & other players that come & go. They have these rolling threat-emitter systems they'll be travelling the state with to raise the "I'm so shit-hot" guys' pucker factor.

Couple recent articles mentioned Truax Fld in Madison & Volk Field up here as candidates for an F-22 squadron basing. Hope they come up here, the Gasthaus across the highway from the front gate there would love to go back into its former glory; their Rindsrouladen was top-notch. Could happen with the nice 10,000 ft runway & elec systems in place, as well as the fact that the People's DemoSocialist Enclave of Madison already likes to complain about that infernal jet noise from the existing F-16 traffic - what they get for being educated at the University of Whiners.

Meanwhile... the noise beats a local kid with his wannabe street-racer anyday.

#1 GD HS graduation

Numbah One Granddaughter walks tomorrow. Has been pretty neat watching her grow up; she's 3rd in class and they had to go back over extra-curricular activities & attendance all the way back to break some ties so she sits at 3.998. Home-schooled, local Catholic middle-school, then into the public HS system to proceed to smoke every AP class she cast her eye on.
:lifter

Fine young woman. She is scary smart but well-grounded. She can sharpen her own blades, pull PM on her car, craft a helluva strawberry-rhubarb pie, read German poetry, appreciates from her engineer-like brain the low-wind loading of simple wire antennas (as she checks "ours" everytime she comes over after a storm), knows the difference between letting a bluegill getting aboard the hook & the "cross their eyes" hookset needed for a big largemouth, can tie a Palomar knot as well as get down on the ground & show her little cousins to tie it as well and is "all-in" when time to playact at the local 4H haunted house.

Peers & parents are all full of thoughts about what she should be. Fortunately she's just going to take care of 1st year undergrad general stuff first with a couple of scholarships she earned; she writes better than much of the BS we've all seen under a GO's signature. Currently her tiresome answer to all the good idea faeries is that she's going to be a professional clown. Said with her best poker face that usually shuts 'em up. Grandpa is like...

And, yeah, although she was the first one, she is Numbah One.*

2nd Grandson walks next week. Went to the party today at his dad's house where we all talked and had fun during a rainy afternoon.
plenty of good food to boot.

He has finished 1st at the County CTC as an electrician. Plans on working days for a electrical contractor with community college in electricity at night to get a journeyman license. He loves to help farm with Dad and loves to fish in local ponds.

I'd like to add both grandson's are good workers and never mind about getting their hands dirty. Both can shoot all the arms I own very well and pretty much
crack shots. The oldest grandson is quite the hunter with snow geese high on the list next to deer.

I use a special 2 part epoxy which is only spread down the middle of the stone, you want to leave at least 1/4 inch around the outside of the stone with out epoxy for an infil. The infil is 1 part white portland cement, 1 part hydrated lime and in this case 6 parts marble dust.

Happy Thought of the Day:

I always see hope in this great nation when people such as cbtengr do amazing deeds for those American citizens who have past before us. It is a wonderful thing that you are doing, and thanks for my happy thought of the day:)

Recently went to BV Colorado, and learned a ton about Topo maps, navigation, and even discovered a rural goat farm selling cheeses to the public! (Photo included of the sweet gal inside the little store...delicious cheese!)

Highly recommend to anyone wanting to get away from it all...they even have some hot springs that heal dry skin conditions! The Continental Divide is beautiful...as is all of the little 5,000 population of the town.:o
