Ordered my copy, how long did it take you guys to get yours?

If you order from the Warrior Foundation, you'll pay less. Because they ship media mail, it will take slightly longer to get than if you order through Amazon, you'll pay more, but it can ship USPS Priority... which is faster than media mail.

"How To Get Selected"
It has been beat to death, but I wanted to add my praise to this book as my first real post. I ordered it last year while in Afghanistan at the recommendation of some GRP guys I was around. It was a great resource. I am in Iraq now and training with a few other guys. We ordered some more copies to help us prepare for a possible slot at SFAS this September. Don't know if that is going to work out (we're Guard), but we will be ready either way. When we finally get to go, we will feel more secure in our abilities and knowledge because of the information available in this book. I hope everyone who is serious about selection and/or about giving to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation would purchase one, or more.

The (nonmilitary) shoelaces
At our last drill (with the local RSP of the FLARNG) we had a 6-mile road march. I showed up with my boot's shoelaces tied in two stages the way that the book recommends, so that they are tight on the feet and looser on the calf. The cadre were not impressed and, remarking that such an arrangement was nonmilitary, made me tie them normally. They did ask where I had learned to tie my boots that way, and I almost told them that I had read about it in a book called Get Selected! about preparing for the special forces, but I held my tongue and muttered vaguely about the internet.

The Recruit Sustainment Program -- a place to keep enlistees who have not yet gone to BCT, or who are between BCT and AIT. The program's main goal is to prepare recruits to attend BCT, so they put great emphasis on doing things very much by the book. In this case, that meant that the knots tying the shoelaces should not be visible, which is impossible to accomplish if you tie them in two stages.

On a side note (sorry if this is off topic) - just got my book yesterday in the mail. I am half way through reading it, and I am going to finish it up today at breakfast. It is a fast read for anybody thinking about buying it (at least for me, since it is in my interests) and I would definitely recommend the half I have read already. Tossing in my 2 pennies.

The SSG (a veteran of the 1st ID) who told me about the laces was passing down an order from the MSG. The SSG didn't care personally, but he was going to make damn sure I laced the boots the way the MSG wanted. I think it would have betrayed a lack of SA to have pressed the issue. This is not a high-speed unit and I am not looking to stand out other than through excelling in PT (at that drill I scored 321) and learning as much as I can. I doubt that how the boots are laced would be a problem at the 20th Group NQP program, for example. That being said, I am trying to come up with a way to improve upon the two-part lacing system that does not call so much attention to itself. Hammock |

Smart. The first SOF Imperative: Know your operational environment. Have a set of boots you roadmarch with...and set for the drills you have with the conventional folks. I didn't know or use the dual lacing system when I went to basic training (1989). Not sure how the drill sergeants would have responded to it...guessing neutral at best by ignoring it. |

You have to choose the moment to defy authority and when flaunt your individuality. Since the people telling you to comply with the Army regulation were senior to you, in your chain of command, correct, and control whether you get to go to SFAS or not, IMHO, you made the right decision. TR |
Actually it was a Large Chic-Fil-A Coffee (x2 Refills) and the back half was not as long as I thought it would be. Several Appendixes and about 15 resource pages. I got a few funny looks sitting in the mall reading a book - Thank goodness I finished up by 0930 :)

I tried to post a review on Amazon, but it will publish my name if I do so. Any computer/internet wizzes out there know how to keep that from showing up, no need to connect my name with SF. (Better safe than sorry)
thanks, rm |

Great book, and fantastic information. Without sounding like too much of a fanboy, I just wanted to say "thanks for the awesome resource, Warrior Mentor".
The foot care section was a big eye opener, and the training schedule really whooped my butt into shape. I'm only a few points off of a 300 AFPT score (and 3 months before I even go to Basic), got nice tough feet, and a tremendous amount of self confidence that I CAN/MUST do this and I know I have you and your Co-Author to thank for all of it. Best Regards, Terrapin |
Just purchased a copy of this book a couple minutes ago. Can't wait for it to arrive, so I can read this from cover-to-cover.
Thanks for this great resources, and I appreciate all you all have done for us hopefuls. - Black |

My own copy
Received my copy Wednesday in the mail, about 2 days ahead of when I thought it would show up. I can't put it down. Thank you for the great resource as I am sure it will be a great asset while I prepare.

Warrior-Mentor:
Thank you very much for taking the time putting in the effort to put Get Selected together. I believe the knowledge I have gained from the book will help me a great deal, not only when I get to SFAS, but from the spot I stand now. |
WM,
Received my receipt for my recent donation and the privilege to have given.... :lifter But what really made me feel good was that my Coach Mike Ditka was a sponsor and supporter of the program........ :D Big Mike is a living legend in the hearts of all Chicago Bears fans.... :) He is the kind of guy who is made of the "right stuff"..... ;) Big Teddy |
Big Teddy,
Da BEARS! Great to have guys like him and Tiger and Phil Mickelson, the NY Yankees, etc on board. Glad you got the receipt...I take it you got the book as well? Cheers, Joe |
Just a FYI the link is dead/outdated on http://www.warrior-mentor.com/ It leads to http://www.specialops.org/news.asp#book while it should lead to http://www.specialops.org/?page=GetSelected
I bough the book and I'm looking forward to reading it. Being a Canadian non-citizen/non-green-card holder my chances of making it one day in the pipeline are very slim but anyway I'm sure it'll be a goldmine of good info (especially on PT/rucking/foot injuries/mental conditioning/etc).. |
