I know the material is great, but....WOW!!

Thanks! Just ordered a copy. This, coupled with "Chosen Solider" should paint a nice SFAS picture.

-edit #5 Do not talk about SFAS events.
LOL gotta love the mind games Best advice from an SF Candidate to date. Do not talk about SFAS events. Team Sergeant |

My buddy advised to ruck with a gallon jug of water in each hand. This gets you ready for the rifle you carry, and increases your overall grip strength and endurance. Sounds like good advice to me.

Listen up sugar britches; you won’t think they are "mind games" after the first enemy rounds are cracking past your head. They’re reasons we do what we do in training and preparation. Also a lot of you guys should be very thankful we now incorporate SFAS, otherwise the attrition rate would be a whole lot higher. Read more and post less. I don't want to see advice from non-SF soldiers, ie SF Candidates. Team Sergeant |

I would quit trying to G2 the course, and spend more time rucking and doing PT. TR |
Just got selected in April's class.
The best advice I can give is concentrate on cardio and have your boots fitting like slippers by the time you go. I was doing two workouts a day leading up to SFAS and every workout I did incorporated some sort of running / rucking (also helped with breaking in the boots). The two biggest things that helped me get selected were the fact that I had such great cardio and my boots fit so well. I can't stress it enough. Even when I was in the gym to lift weights...the workout would start and end with a one mile run. |
Cardio,pain tolerance, attitude .
I am always reminded of how it was when I 'm tired. When I'm tired I still make a point of doing more work. A thing to do prep wise is to fatique yourself with some hard work and PT. Then when you are not feeling like it, pick up that ruck and do a ten K. Much of what I remember of operations in Group was wind, rain, snow, cold, scalding heat, and pitch dark, isthey are all just a paragraph in an op order. Your best work will be done in these conditions and in places no one else would go, and you'll be tired and hurting but that will not stop you. SF thrives where others just survive. Blitz

I first read C.S. a while back when I started reading anything I could about the history and mission [..anything, really] of the Army Special Forces - I am a big fan of research, permitting. Learned a good bit and developed a stronger sense of respect for the people that even tryout, and a great deal for those who make it... (and the need for some good boots and a level head). So re: the PT, very strong copy, TR.

There is nothing wrong with researching SF. However, it isnt the test (or a picture as you put it) that a candidate needs. They need the answers that can only be found in the heart. Those seeking to find other sources for "the answers" are cheating themselves, the Regiment, and our Brothers. We arent looking for individuals who can find the answers in a book but someone who has the answers no matter the test they face. I would have picked a different book though, but then again I am looking at CS from a different perspective than you. As TR said, your time would be better spent PT-ing. Crip |
Copy. I am continually soul searching and having heart to hearts with myself and occasionally my mom (my dad nearly disowned me when I applied to the service academies)... the mission that SF carries out is one that I believe in. It is why I am trying to learn as much about what it is you do [and have done] so I can make the best life decision possible... I feel it in my heart, but I need to more in my mind (how it will affect family is my main concern).
Again, thank you to all the QPs for that life decision you made when you enlisted/commissioned. Respectfully, Morgan |
The Cat's Out of the Bag...
Anybody seen the May 2008 issue of "Warrior Link" from the Special Operations Warrior Foundation?
Page 25 is thanks to all of your contributions! We've busted the 6 figure mark...officially raised over $100,000!!!!! :lifter |
Great News Sir, and six months ahead of scheduale.
On a different note, news back from the most recent 18X BCT is that around 60% of candidates dropped their 18X contract before even completeing Basic and as much as 80%+ havn't heard of the book. Many of them seem to ship very quickly after enlisting and many of them walked into the recruiting office not knowing what 18X was. Surely the book could make all the difference here? Scimitar |
It certainly couldn't hurt.

I just purchased my copy at clothing sales a few days ago, and it is an amazing book. I'm glad to contribute to the cause any way I can. I'm going to attempt the try-out next April. Thank you Sir, for the opportunity.

WM, sir, I sent a question to the email that's listed on your website (about four days ago) but I haven't received a reply yet, so I'm just posting in here just to make sure it didn't get lost in a spam filter or something.
Even though I've already passed my 'selection' (different to the US SF one of course), I'd still like to get the book. For one, I've heard that it's great and informative (I take an interest in US SF), and secondly, the money goes to a good cause. I'd just like to know if international shipping is available before I pay for the book through the online Paypal service? Thanks if you can answer my question. |
Hello,
I wanted to say thank you for this great book, i can't put it down. |

Best place to find the book is on their website (www.specialops.org). Amazon will cost you more... |
Finally got my hands on Anthony Robbins tapes. Excellent stuff. Forget all the psychology classes and psychiatric nursing that I ever took, my ultimate pursuit in understanding the human mind and finding out what makes a person tick is satisfied (for now) by his work. Found so much similarities in how he got started...too bad, I wasn't born earlier enough :D
Thank you Warrior Mentor Sir, the skeptical-me would have skipped this had it not been for the recommendation in the book. |
Excellent Book!
Sir,
I purchased your book several months ago and have read it several times. It is an excellent book that really opened my eyes to many techinques. Your boot lacing technique is used by at least half the Infantrymen in the Platoon I am serving in. Whenever a soldier would come up complaining of "shin splints" or Blisters, I would recommend your boot and lace technique to them. It single handedly dropped my post ruck march "casualties";) to zero. I am looking forward to going to SFAS come my return from Afghanistan, and I am sure I will be glad to have read your book. Thank you, -Doc Z |
Glad to help. Thanks for the feedback.
Look forward to hearing your progress through the training pipeline... Make your own luck. |
Good reading. I have read it about four times and followed the little PT program and found it beneficial.

!st post - then going silent again
Could not buy the book on the http://www.warrior-mentor.com/ website. Ordered from Amazon and it arrived in two days. Purchased for my nephew who is currently 18X OSUT at Bragg. Can't wait to 'quiz' the young trooper! Thanks Out EX-USAF (62-66) and nowhere near SF quality |

I must have read that at least 100 times and wondered why anyone would violate rule #1. Then I stepped into the punji pit. :o Correction made. |
Got it today.
Was waiting in the mail when I got back from a fun run. Its a great book and really helpful. Can't wait to do the 30 day workout.
|
Just placed my order. Hopefully it went through, because after I was finished, I was redirected to the "thanks" page, but it said page not found.
Just a FYI, the link from Warrior-Mentor.com is no good. But all you have to do is search the menu on the left of the page once you receive the "page not found" message, and you will find the, "Get selected for SF", option. Thanks to all the Prefessionals who made this book possible. I can't wait to receive it and start reading. |
Holy cow! Just saw there are over 41,000 page views on this thread... not bad.
Here's an 18X Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK6JYrM4lwQ |
Sir,
A fine book, and a great read. A buddy of mine who is nearing the end of the pipeline sent me a copy, but I couldn't wait and bought a copy anyway. It's not the price of the book, its a donation, and an investment in my future. I look forward to applying the lessons learned when I get to SFAS in the near future. Thanks for sharing your advice and expertise. Almost forgot, the Ft. Riley MCS needs more, I bought the last copy. Thanks! |
Just adding my thanks for Warrior-Mentor's book, which I got last week online. Clearly and directly written. Particularly liked the 30-day breakdown in Appendix A and the boot/foot-care info. No real suggestions yet - maybe after I return from SFAS in March.
Thanks! -Mac |
I have 'Get Selected' and have read it 3 times, going on my 4th. Its a great resource. Tons of personal development tips that will serve you throughout life. My question is regarding the workout at the end: My recruiter sent me a workout regiment that looks like it comes from the JFKSW Center. Has anybody compared/tested which is better? (the one in 'Get Selected' vs the one sent out by recruiters). I would combine them, but i am afraid of overtraining. Anybody have any insight? thanks!

Rucking without a good mileage on your feet will do nothing but overload your bones and ligaments and you'll most likely develop stress fractures and muscle imbalances. Another big one's that will help you before and during your preparation for SFAS is ruckmarching uphill, and swimming(but i mean swimming more than 1000 m each time you do it). If you have more than 6 months to prepare let me know i will send you different links to websites offering good workouts to prepare your body. Finally there is a ton of information on this excellent website, use the search button. Good luck!:lifter |
Just got the book last weekend, already read through it all once, and several parts two or three times. Excellent book, essential for anybody preparing for SFAS!
PM inbound Warrior-Mentor |
Thank you!
Loved this book! I was looking for something that would prepare me for what lays ahead and this has been the most helpful so far. I bought another book, and although it provided some of the same material, Get Selected was by far more detailed (I especially liked the in-depth advice on boots). Thanks again Warrior-Mentor and to everyone else! I ship out for OSUT in a month and can't wait, but I feel as though I am a little better prepared for what is to come. Really looking forward to Jump school!

I've read the book about 5 times. It's awesome! The PT schedule starts off slow then works it's way up. You have to be really disciplined, and not put PT off to do everything on the calendar. I bought mine at the PX, and I believe some of the money goes to a donation for warriors.
