And here's part II.
|
Nice work!
|
Thank you! It has been a long road bringing these guys to life, and it feels really good to see the first of them actually finished.
Big props to Curtis for showing me how sharpening daggers is done. :D Quote:

Here are all of the non-folding models that I'm bringing to Bladeshow. Pictured is one of each model for sake of simplicity and clarity. A variety of other color combinations for each of these models will be available, but there is no color combination duplication across a particular model. I will post a separate pic of the folders once they are finished.
Brothers at RMJ Tactical, Bawidamann Blades, and myself are occupying a three booth pod this year, #619, #621, and #623. I am listed in the program as American Kami Custom Blades, booth #621. Actual location is booth #623 along with the Bawidamanns. RMJ has #619 and #621. We will even be be giving a little real estate to our homeboys from Artificum Solis. Team Superbooth 2016. We should be hard to miss. Be there or be square. Oh, and I'm probably not going to be setting up on Sunday. That's my day to recover, walk around, and talk with people. Hope to see you guys there! |
That is certainly some nice work and something to be proud of.
|
Thanks, man!
I do feel good about these, now that they are finished. Quote:

They look great, like your style. :lifter
|
Thank you!
Style is a tricky thing. Function always needs to come first, but there's no reason a tool can't do work, and also look cool while it is doing it. As a designer, sometimes you nail it right out of the gate, and sometimes it is a long, slow process of evolution. When I look at these and then think back to the knives that I was building 11 years ago, it's like comparing an F/A-18 to a Sopwith Camel. Quote:

S-Express

Some time ago, I contacted DJ and bounced some ideas back and forth with him to develop a custom blade. I knew what I wanted, but had ZERO experience making anything other than decent corn liquor and babies (be careful b/c one leads to the other in a hurry). So, I left the bladesmithing up to the professional.
Fast forward a little bit and this was waiting for me in the mailbox last week. Took her with me to the mountains this past weekend and absolutely loved carrying it and using it. It's better than anything I could've imagined - a tremendous work of art, if you ask me. This blade is 100% all DJ. Very proud to carry it and look forward to years of good use. It's called the S-Express and can be found here (just scroll all the way down). I'll post more photos/experiences with her as time goes on. I took some photos with other items in there for size comparison. Great work, DJ! |
Those of you who I was able to meet at the show, a pleasure as always, gentlemen! :lifter
|
Thanks so much for you support, and am so glad to see that you are using and enjoying the knife, buddy! Appreciate you sharing the pics. Use in good health! :D

Don't tell my accountant. He'll start to think I'm famous and then I won't be able to afford him.

I didn't think it until you said it, but now that you have, I'm pretty sure there's a million dollar idea in there somewhere. LOL!

DJ hit the big time..... the Chinese are pirating his sporks... his knives are next...
I guess I need to save pennies and buy an axe or something from him... before I can't be sure it's not a Chines knockoff, my spork is never very far away and it was sent directly from the man himself. |
Yeah, I need to call Ebay and get them to pull those listings. Just from looking at the pics alone, with the sporks, their execution is poor, and even if they had my logos on them, I could spot the differences right away.
I foresaw the day when this was going to happen, so I keep an extensive photo archive of everything that leaves the shop, in addition to my spreadsheets that I use to track output. And I have devised a system of hidden proof marks that go on different stuff. In most cases, at least with blades, I can give you the "born on" date down to the hour. And you can always send a blade in for authenticity verification. I can usually do that just from pics, but it's a lot easier if I have the actual specimen in hand. You know, it's pretty stupid. If the Chinese would just stop ripping off other people's IP and expend the energy that they use making rip-offs to come up with their own designs, they could really make some quality stuff. My patterns that Boker is licensed to produce are made in Asia, and they are doing a really good job on them. So clearly, the Chinese are capable of doing good work. Why they persist in playing the rip-off game, I will never know. It defies logic. Quote:

And yeah, they defy logic alright and a few other things......... |

Bladeshow hath arrived!
I shall be there, same location as last year, booth 623. Split booth with the Bawidamanns. I am not listed in the program due so show contract nonsense, but rest assured, I shall be there. Find the RMJ Tactical booth, and we will be the weird noisy beasts spooned up against the side of them just like last time. Safe travels, and hope to see you all there, gang! Oh yeah, and you probably want to see some blades. Here are samples of all the models that I am bringing with me, and I do have them all in an array of different coating and handle color combinations. |
You Sir are a knifemaker. Beautiful work!
|
They look just as good in person!
