My 12 year-old finished the week-long basketball tryouts and made the team.
He's homeschooled, but state law allows him to try out for the local school's team.

It probably helps that he's over 5'9" barefoot, has arms and legs longer than mine (at 6'2"), has a flat-footed reach of 7'8", and is the only player at tryouts who can jump up and touch the backboard.
Also plays good defense and rebounds well.

Interesting years to come.

Spent a lovely 94 deg day out in the tourist area watching things and got paid for it. Ready to spend a few hours under water Saturday where cell phones do not work and the fish are quiet....... Need the break from work........;)

Oooo, I wonder .... if you put a cell phone in a water tight bag, and took it diving with you, would you be able to get a signal at depth ????

Parrotfish can make a lot of noise while crunching coral! And those banded cleaner shrimp make that loud clicking noise. :D

But you're right... I love hearing mainly the noise from in inhalation and exhalation - along with bubbles.

"I pity the fool" who dives around me with one of those full-face, talking masks!

MRFL made me help her clean out the boxes in the garage. Yuck, I'd rather mow the lawn (which I did, twice . . . Looks like an outfield). Alas I could not drag mowing out long enough.
Open a box . . . Amoung other things there is an old Green Beret from 25 years ago. An old Bancroft with the liner cut out. Still in a sealed zip-lock and still "pocket folded".

Gave it a little shake and a stretch and placed it on my head -- fit perfectly. I thought I heard it whisper, "let's go."
MRFL looks over at me and says, " oh just take that box inside and empty it out. You're not gonna be much help now."
Man oh man!!!

Yes I have a dry bag and no it does not get signal under water. Yes I have looked.;)

It was a very quiet set of dives. 205 min total time of phone free relaxing forget all the stupidity of work and personal drama.

Problem was as soon as I was topside a group in the office was having a meltdown and I had to go in. I am hoping the water is clear this morning for another session of relaxation therapy. The storm last nit may have mucked up the visability.

Got a double dose today:
1. Found out my wife will be able to come for Thanksgiving (she's on AD in NYC), but alas I have to really clean the house to pass inspection.
2. Our daughter won the Florida State Spelling Bee for christian schools.

I was watching the movie Patton today (on AMC...stupid Dish TV) and noticed as his halftrack drove thru the desert it had a big black WTF flag on it!

I had to google that one for a bit!

I once used BFD as the unclassified reference for a Corp OPLAN.

I've no idea why the initials for Before Full Deployment would cause command to go nuclear...

I reckon it dates back to the "Fun, Travel, and Adventure" days. You know how those old timers are. ;)

I was invited by one of our distinguished faculty to join him at the Big House tomorrow to watch our Wolverines trounce the Hawkeyes.

One of my patients was invited as a guest of Georges St-Pierre to the UFC fight tomorrow night. Unforuntately, he relapsed and is quite sick in the hospital following intensive chemotherapy so he cannot attend. We've made arrangements for the family to host a private viewing party in a secluded part of the hospital and I've been asked to come as part of the family. When we shared the plans for the party with my patient, his mood immediately brightened - he's been extremely down due to the refractory nature of his cancer and is preparing himself for the likelihood of going home on comfort/hospice care once sufficiently recovered from this treatment round.

I am grateful for the privilege to care for this courageous young man and the opportunity to know him and his family, and that we can do something that, although seemingly small, means so much for him.

It's Friday - which means I need to go to the Bogle and Boeger wineries tomorrow to pick up my Fall wine club selections and taste their newest releases. Sweeeeeeeet! :D

Tomorrow LTG Boykin will be speaking at a church I used to attend. :lifter I would not drive across town to to hear most, but I will happily travel the four hours to listen to him.
