A friend's son was having trouble with his algebra and asked for some help tutoring him.

At the end of 1st quarter, he didn't understand the subject and had a 42% in the class.
He now understands it well, has a "B", and won't be recycled.

The kid worked hard, good on 'im.

Re-connected with an old friend today.

Celebrated our 21st Wedding Anniversary...

Had an excellent meal at the restaurant, actually laughed out loud at the movie and took a long walk together watching the dog investigate the terrain.

Great day.

My happy thought for today is the once in a lifetime relationship between a boy and a puppy growing up together...such a wonderful thing to watch. This is my 10 year old and a puppy we rescued last March. We all fell in love with her the moment she got home and these two have been inseparable since.

Gypsy 01-05-2010 18:28

Adorable! Does the name Matilda fit her well?

Interested in the travel bag on the end table. Is it a Filson?

Real quick Happy Thought of the Day...getting to spend the day reading PS.com in the warmth of my Apartment, with food, shelter, and warm blankets, while all schools in the state are shut down due to the dropping temps and incredible wind chills...( going to -15 by noon.);)

As of today I'm proud to be an AMERICAN! :)
They even honor service members after the oath. The sky was pouring white crystals afterwards.

This means one thing: It's time to choose SR9c vs. M&Pc vs. Glock SF series vs. P2000c :D

On the 777th wake up in Baghdad, you don't hurt. Either dead or in heaven or it is a very good day.

My happy thought for the day: Next monday my packet will be reviewed at the Warrant Officer Flight Training board, and hopefully a week or so later we will know the results.

Furthermore, it is a great day to keep the face, and keep treading whatever water you are swimming in.

Went to Half-Price Books and found a 1st edition of Stanton's classic Vietnam Order of Battle w/cover in excellent condition for $9.95 - I had loaned my copy to someone while in Boot Strap and never got it back  so was thrilled to find one...and so cheap! :lifter

Spent the commute reading the headlines, stories and commentary on Brown's win in Mass....I love it.

The scramblings up on the Hill right now just make me feel warm inside.

Have the sheep awoken???

I got a letter from a former student today. She said that her new school is huge and she almost got lost, but is adapting well to her new environment. She also commented on how much she misses being in my class as she not only learned a lot, but had fun doing it. Apparently her new teacher "yells all the time" and her lessons are "boring". What I was most impressed with is that she took the time to send me a letter via snail mail (she is 10 years old) and that after she commented on how much she does not care for her new teacher, she wrote that she understands that "life is not fair, get used to it" and that she is just going to have to 'suck it up' - which are two quotes my students are very familiar with as I often say it to them.

I guess she did learn a lot in my class.

On a lighter note, I just reached the 12km mark of my goal to participate in a 30km marathon in late March. I was pleased with my time of 1:00:01 which included a number of lights where I had to stop running, but my running computer did not. And despite the cool temperature (-3C), I felt amazing and look forward to adding a kilometer this weekend.

After weeks of snow, snow, and more snow, we finally had a 40 degree day today. I showed the Bandy Boys how to make paper airplanes (prototypical dart planes) and helicopters. After testing them out in the house (and drawing the ire of the Mrs), we took them to the local high school football stadium and field-tested them from the top bleacher. A good, strong wind helped us get a few good, long flights. We're already looking at design changes. :D

Couple that with a fantastic dinner with the Mrs. last night, it's been a great weekend to be alive.

My buddies and I have secured our vacations and are prepping logistics for next summer's outing.
-Private land in the Colorado mountains
-A comfortable motorhome
-More beer and ammunition that we can reasonably use.

Life is good. :D

I believe that the more consumption of beer that occurs, your sense of reason as far as ammunition allocation is concerned will dwindle and disappear.

Be safe.

My happy thought of the day:

Looking at one of my young SGT's thinking intently while chewing on a black pen. The look on the young SGT's face when he was asked by a SGM why he thought the unkept look is acceptable for NCO's and Soldiers.

The SGM directed the young SGT to the nearest reflective surface. Young SGT turning around with a look of pure embarrassment just made us all laugh.

So I guess the story I was told that the wee grandson popped out of the hatch with a signed 18x contract and a cigar asking where the team room was is mere rumor?:D:p

In any case CONGRATULATIONS! I am sure he will win your heart and your mind.

ps....dad and grandad are.....well you know...:D

I did hear he had his hidesite pretty well covered, that to get to him, 'they' had to go in and drag him out. Glad to know Dad survived the ordeal. Grandpa, OTOH, sounds like he needs a drink. :p

Just said that we would have more beer and ammo than can reasonably be used.

Nobody ever accused us of being reasonable. :D
